General Removing Locks

The lock is held in position by a clip that you just push to one side. It is easier with the help of a screwdriver. Otherwise you have a 'knuckle joint' connected to the rods for the locking mechanism. This is easy to take off. That is all.

Yuo do not insert it. You put it on the lip of the clip obviously inside the door and tap it with your hand or a hammer. Strictly speaking you don't need a screwdriver but it is easier to do with it and you might not scratch or injure yourself.

the lock itself is the easy bit - attaching the actuating arm to the lock when it is inside the door is another matter (for my fat old hands).

BTW the door locks are the same fitting for either door due to the symmetry of the lock and the key :)

Long nose pliers does the trick for my big hands. Have got quite some practise with taking locks in and out that way.

I have one of these "magnets on stick" for retrieving the bits out of the bottom of the door (that includes the pliers...) when it goes wrong.

It's not impossible.

The last ones I did I put a very tiny blob of grease on the peg the actuating arm pops onto, so the arm would "stick" there long enough for me to fumble about with the pliers and squeeze it onto the peg.

I suspect they used an offset plier with cup shaped jaws during assembly.

Don't get scared Steve. It just takes a bit of time. Explanations are much more complicated to understand that they actually are. You change each lock in less than (real) five minutes. I have done it several times.

The locks are dead simple really, just take the trim panel off, get a torch and have a look. it'll become obvious then.
The boot lock is just a 8mm nut in the very centre of the lock assembly, undo that, and withdrawn the mechanism.

No problems!

I now have a 1108 selecta i will sort piccys out of it soon. alot of people think its a 4x4!

Sorry if you're feeling a bit worried about the job - have a look at this to make you feel better, and pleased you don't have something more exotic to work on :)

However, I must say that it's the best "how to" I've seen.
