Hi All :)

my missus has got a clarion tape player in her car that we're gonna swap for an mp3 player, anyone ever removed one of these as it appears it doesn't have the normal two "prong" holes either side (if that makes sense)? it didnt come with any removal tools either :(

any advice appreciated!(y)

cheers, was hoping there's a DIY method of getting it out though as they're pretty pricey, suppose i could get a clarion mp3 player and they might have the correct tool??!!

Reckon so, yeah :) Clarions have fairly good SQ to boot too :D

Clarions are a nightmare to remove. The only reliable way ive found is to use four radio removal tools. It doesnt matter which type you use, so long as they are pretty flat (ie. a screwdriver wont usually fit).

Slide the first tool in between the visible "prong" and the radio cage. Then slide the tool carefully towards the top of the radio and leave in position. Then take the second tool, slide in past the prong, and move it down towards the bottom of the radio. This should release the two catches that hold the radio in place. Now repeat using the other two removal tools on the other side of the radio, leaving all 4 of them in place.

Now to remove the radio: If you are very lucky, you will be able to pull the radio out using your finger in the tape slot, (assuming its not a cd player!). More than likely with four tools wedged in the radio will be stuck fast. You now need a small flatblade screwdriver to lever the radio out. stick it in the prong on one side of the radio and gently ease it out a bit, then do the same on the other side, and repeat until the radio is loose!!

best of luck!!
