This is probably gonna seem like a stupid question to a lot of people, but what is the red line of a 1.2 8v Grande Punto??? It's just something i don't seem to be able to find out anywhere on any websites or the manuals etc... It's frustrating that the Rev counter doesn't show it, just goes all the way up to 7

6,200rpm and limiter is at 6,500rpm ish I think. Will do you absolutely no good taking it there .

Just get engine warmed up and go for it  :slayer:

Yeah, I think the redline in the sporting is around 5.5k so it has to be less for the 1.2

But no point taking it beyond 5.5k, considering peak hp is at 5.5k and peak torque is from 2.8k - 4.4k.

Ah, so what is it for the other petrol models?

Well the redline is normally quite a bit before the limiter, the highest I have taken mine was about 5800rpm in 1st.

Thats the diesel sporting, diesel cars redline at lower revs than petrol cars.

they sound like the specs for the 1242 8v TBH.

i know for the cinq (a harmonically more stable engine than the 1242) it is peak torque at 3250 and max power at 5500.

the 1242 8v in the P60 limits at 6200 iirc

I never go above 5000rpm in my M-Jet. There isn't much point as its run out of puff by then. Correct me if im wrong but I thought peak bhp was around 3500-4000rpm, torque band seems about right though.

I don't even take it that far.

When mapped I don't even take it past 3300rpm. A few minutes with the printout in my hand showed where was best to be changing gear.

Thanks for the replies. I know the peak horse power to be a mighty 65bhp at 5500rpm so i never take it much past that. And then only in 1st maybe 2nd gear. I just wondered where it was as it doesn't display it on the rev counter itself.
Also, peak torque is 76 lb/ft at 3000rpm for the 1.2 8v if anyone wants to know.
In the mean time, still saving for the forthcoming abarth....

Over-revving isnt the best but if you arent doing it a lot you wont really kill it.

The engine can handle 6000RPM before damage occurs. if you over rev the engine the head valvesprings are designed to operate at certain RPMs when you hit redline you are close to getting valvefloat that is the valve stays open because the valvesprings cant react fast enough.

If you get a rolling road done you will then know when to change gear. I was recommended to change gear at around 3500rpm in my diesel after the remap.

I have pondered on this often,so you`re not alone asking this question.
My GP (1.4 Sporting),will happily rev to 6500 with no apparent problem, and there seems to be no rev limiter cutting in. I don`t think revving a petrol engine to high revs does any damage and is probably healthier for the engine than constantly driving at low revs, otherwise known as driving like an old woman.
