Had car serviced yesterday amd while dealer had the car they carried out Recall 6025 but wern't very willing to tell me what this Recall campaign was all about.

Anybody got any knowledge of Recall Campaign 6025 or where I might find it please? Been spectacularly unsuccessful at finding any details so far.

Now I know the answer
Alanw47 "An enhanced software is downloaded to improve emission performance in terms in real driving conditions as a consequence".^VV

So they're removing the dodgy software that fiddled* the emissions figures, yeah?

* allegedly, m'lud.

I can't post links apparently, but the reason for the recall appears to be contained in an article from May this year which contains this gem

"The report claims that Fiat’s 500X uses a time-based cheat that senses how long the car has been running. The idea is that once the car senses that 22 minutes have elapsed, it concludes that the 20-minute NEDC test cycle is over, and subsequently disables emissions controls devices."

The engine referred to is Fiat's 2 litre diesel, which is what I have under my bonnet

Fiat Chrysler has responded, saying its vehicles do indeed meet regulatory requirements.

Not entirely relevant to this post but as far as affordable diesel engines in cars are concerned the curtains are closing. Some manufacturers have already cut several diesel engines form their offered options. I think we will all find that all lower market priced vehicles will no longer have diesel engine options. Only the top offerings with price tickets over £25K to £30K plus will come with diesel engines as these are the only expensive models that can afford the development and service/maintenance associated costs.

The likes of us more humble joe public vehicle owners will be petrol based. Bloody good IMHO but I guess it is just a matter of time before the petrol engine comes under the same emissions onslaught and electric will be the only allowed and affordable options.

:)

Well, I don't mind electric, I've seen it up close and personal and I think it should be the future.

Unfortunately the current technology is not up to the task, for example a rather dirty secret that they don't tell you, is that once you switch on the heating on your a/c, your electric car won't even make it to your local Co-op :yuck:

It gets scarier, once you realise that even rolling down the window or having the radio on, makes you count the miles you've got left till you start pushing to the side of the road. Begging the old lady down the street for lending you her electric lawn mower's power extension :p

Fun times...

:D
