Hey guys, hope you're all doing well. Took me about a hour and a half earlier today to get the radio out of the 2004 mk2b, i used my fingers to make a gap (i'm stong, but that was tough), and then put a screw driver in the gap to push the levers to let the radio snap/slide out of there. hmm.
But thats not my question, i'm trying to put this JVC radio i have into the car, cos the old radio is a blaupunkt tape player, stock radio with the 2004 mk2b, i'm sure many of you are familiar with it.
I've worked out the speaker plug ( there is 2 plugs ) is wired correctly, but the power plug isnt wired correctly. I think i need the earth/negative (black), and the battery and accessory lines plugged in there correctly for the new radio to switch on and play my cds.
So, finally, my question/request. here is a wiring diagram from the stock radio - http://www.campbellteaching.co.uk/radio.jpg - and i was hoping someone would be able to tell me which of those symbols are the accessory, and the battery line, i'm pretty sure the black line is the earth/neutral and that is already in the correct place. Even i know the earth symbol. So if anyone knows much about those symbols on there, it'd be very much appreachiated.
and for anyone who wants to see what car i have - http://www.campbellteaching.co.uk/punto.JPG
Thanks again :)

We had a customer with a JVC radio that they wanted fitted the other day.

The 'problem' with the mk2b's is there's no ignition live as such, the standard unit is switched on via the CAN network which doesn't provide the necessary voltage for aftermarket radios.

Also, most aftermarket radios have the battery supply and ignition supply wires round the opposite way to Fiat.

The easiest way around this is to physically join the switched and constant live wires together (after plugging into the Fiat connector, on the JVC adaptor the yellow wire becomes the constant live, the red is the radio's switched live that needs to be joined to it IIRC- check your manual to confirm).

okay. thanks very much for your reply. its much appreciated. I'm not that hot on electronic stuff. So are you saying that i get the red and yellow wires that connect to the JVC radio and plug them in the same hole on the JVC side adapter?? Wont that be connecting the accessory line, and the battery line? thats bad no?

I'm still not sure which wire(s) on the punto side of the adapter i should be plugging my red and yellow wires into (red and yellow wires on the JVC side of the adapter). that was the initial problem i posted about. Your help is much appreachiated. I had to drive out this morning in silence. Both the radios are now on the kitchen table.

i agree with the above,Just noticed this thread as ive just got on..I memba doing this in an ex's car but with a panasonic radio..if i memba rightly,i just swapped the red and yellow wires round on the panasonic stereo. But as it says above, there is a permanent live,no ignition,so all we did was turnd the panasonic stero off wen we didnt use the car.hope this also helps a bit.

ah right, might have to give that a go. sounds better than putting the 2 wires together.

i've really got no idea what those wires coming out the punto are. why cant they jus have standard colours. phrh.

Thanks for your help guys, i'll let you know if that works.

btw, what do you mean by turn off the radio? jus make sure you press the power button when you get out the car? or you pull the wire out or something.

okay, i've done that now. looks to me as if there is a voltage problem, its got enough power to light the screen up for about 2 seconds (literally) and then switches off again, will let me put a disc in there, but wont even think about playing it.

I think i need to do that thing to increase the voltage that i dont understand how to do. I'm off to swindon tomorrow though with work so wont be able to work on this baby again till thursday night, bol***ks.

Another interesting think is that the wire next to the ground wire ( after i've swapped them) isnt even connected to anything on the punto side of the connector. meh. so the power connector only has the ground and that other one connected at the moment.

Thanks again for your help guys :)

no you dont need to increase the voltage, you need to listen to what people are saying join the yellow and the red together, use a crimp its not rocket science

ah right, sorry, was really tired at the time.

will try that one :)

I'll let you know how it goes.

ah right, i've got it working now anyway using that wire joining technique you guys mentioned, but it works even when the car is switched off.

there is a little stand by light on it, which i'm hoping wont make the car battery go flat. i'll unplug the radio anyway if the car is sitting for more than a week.

that switched live thing sounds good, but if its taken me this long jus to get it working like this, do i have much chance of getting the radio to switch on when the car switches on?

as above really (y)

also u say :

if u got ur stereo working even tho your car is off?...simple,just click the release button (as i we used 2 do) OR just turn it off via the on/off button (keep hold of it so its off,not standby)..battery should not go flat, jobs a good un (y)

yeah, dont fancy doing anything that fancy with electrics. I'm no genius. Thanks for the help you guys have provided! 'tis appreachiated.

hi rick
please look in guides at the top of the forum to my guide to making your stereo safe
joining the red and yellow for a quick fix is a recipe to a fire with most imported stereo units of today

When u removed ur cars original headunit
Is there 2npower wires constant and switched?
If so if its probably an older punto pre 2002 and it shud just plug and play
U may need to swap red and yellow over

If its 2003 onwards good chance ur canbus instead
The cars body tells stereo to turn on and off
If so
