I did quite a long round journey today. I normally get about 450 - 470 miles out of my 1.9 multijet sport tank.

I was running low on fuel and eventually the range display went to its ----. I kept going and eventually the needle went below red on the gauge (on the motorway and had to wait for a service station). I got to 482 miles before I filled up. I put just over 50 litres in (range now saying over 600 miles) for a complete fill up. This Bravo has capacity for 58 litres - so my question is how much longer could I have gone before really pushing the limit? Nearly 8 litres left when I was below red and displaying ---- on the range (over 10% fuel left?). Clearly there was more capcity?

I very much doubt I'll push it like this again, but interested to know the situation.

Also, other Bravo drivers with this model, do you get similar fuel stats?

hi m8, the range uses ur average mpg by the number of litres in ur tank - tho not very accurate.
when the light comes on u gt approx 6-8 litres remaining.
ive just bought my bravo mjet 150 and ive put in 20 quid and gt back 170miles before the light came on( mostly motorway) i say u gt about 60-70 miles left when u gt the light on ( motorway).

i wouldnt recomment pushing it to the limits coz if u run out of diesel u gota bleed the system!!.

be wise and fill up when the light comes on, its gd for the car and eliminates any crap at the bottom of the tank.

hope this helped

I have the 1.4 16v petrol engine and I too get about 450-470 miles to a tank.

When I let it go to the red line though it usually takes about 54/55litres to fill it back up again. When I fill up on or just after my light comes on it takes about 47-50litres to fill it.

You seem to have a lot left in reserve when it is saying it is completely empty? When you completely fill it up does your dial go above the full marker? If so how many miles do you get before it comes down nicely on to the full mark? i usually get about 30-40miles out of it before it falls down on to the full mark.

Could it be maybe your gauge is slightly out? Saying you have less in your tank than you actually do have?

I've never managed to get a maximum of 51 litres in the tank, which I've done 3 times since I've had the car.

First time, car was very new, still had Italian diesel in, 14 miles on the clock and "new" to me ( pre-registered ), and the yellow light was on when I picked the car up.

Second time, was on the way back from holiday, light came on saying about 100 miles range, and I drove another 40 miles before I filled up, with still about 60 miles range.

Third time, I'd done a 280 mile trip to Devon, unloaded, and was then looking to get my 5p a litre off at Tesco. The range was getting panicky, ( me too  ), but it still took only 51 litres to brim the tank. Those last few miles were not economical, up and down narrow Devon lanes in low gear!

I really do wonder if the yellow light comes on because you've only got 8 litres left, or because your range has dropped below about 80 miles?

I just had the fuel light turn on yesterday, drove for some time, the needle was under the last 1/8 of the tank left. There was room for 47L this morning when i filled it up, so my conclusion is there must be around 10L in "reserve".

58l of which 8l is reserve so 50 at light coming on would be correct. This is for several reasons 1 you don't run out of fuel:D 2 you avoid the crud at the bottom of the tank going through the fuel system and 3 most importantly - so we can chat about it on the forum:devil:

I've run my 150 Multijet a bit below '0' on the fuel guage, a good 30 miles further on than the stated range when the light first came on. Still only got 54.5 litres in but I guess that's close enough.

And this is probably me being stoopid but I never did get the 'crap in the bottom of the tank' thing. Surely the fuel is drawn from the bottom of the tank anyway? And if it isn't then you won't get the crap... So, can someone put me right or do I have to write to Mythbusters?

Old fuel tanks use to be made of metal and other crap that over the years would flake off, basically you'd end up with a load of shyte at the bottom of the tank. New tanks are made from plastic or something else and it generally doesn't happen anymore.

Thats what I read a while back, no idea if it's true or not.

not sure about bravo , but in my previous car fuel pump was drowned in the fuel, and its fuel that was cooling it, so running out of fuel could have your pump overheat and break
