Anyone know the bare shell weight of a punto compared to say, a corsa? im presuming its a bit lighter? and what big engined conversions have been done to these?
slightly lighter, the 1.2 8v's are around 920kg, the bigger engined ones around a 950.
big engined.... not too many.... mostly been small engines tuned. the 1.8 vis was standard in the hgt, the next biggest fiat engine of the time was a 2.0 5 pot which was just wide enough to be a major headache to fit, although i believe it can be done with a lot of re-engineering, the amount of effort to get that to fit for 20bhp and alot more weight up front however doesn't make it worth it, the 20vt engine can also fit, but ermmm it's tight
and i reckon it would be ****ing horrendous to drive, the 1.8 with 130bhp was plenty quick enough for the mk2 chassis, there's no way it could handle another 100bhp on top of that+ the extra weight, it's already pretty understeery and lacked any kind of traction out of corners, last thing it needs is to be even more nose heavy and another lump of power
It just seems crazy, but if you've got your mind set on that sort of thing, then you might as well go on with it.
Engine out jobby for Timing Belt Change then.
