124 Spider (Classic) Project 1981Fiat 2000 Barn Find

Introduction

Hello everyone,

Here is my new project. This beauty is my 1981 Fiat 2000, Automatic Transmission. I had 1978 Fiat 124 Sport when I was a kid.

This car was driven into a body shop waiting area when the owner passed away, but this car has not been started in 14 years.

I started off by replacing the old gas tank with a new Gas Tank. Old Gas tank had crud in it.

I I think I will change spark plugs and wires. Probably shoot some penetrating old inside engine after I pull plugs.

The oil looks new. I have all radiator hoses on order. I think once the hoses come in and I install, at that point I will buy a battery and try to crank it.

Is there anything as owners of a car that has not been started in a decade + I should be thinking about?

I hope to get this thing running soon. Next 45 days.

Replace cam belt. Brake hoses. Petrol tank inlet hose, petrol pipe hoses, Probably front suspension bushes, brake master cylinder, brake piston seals. Basically anything rubber. Anti freeze fluid would have probably dried out and gummed up the heater tap and water pump.

It's only been 10 years, but in that time even the diaphragms in things like carburettors and vacuum advance units are going to go a bit hard from disuse. It looks like that car would have fuel injection, but it may still have vacuum advance on the ignition system. Also, vacuum leaks can get fun to find.

Good luck!
