hi lads my marea 110 jtd 2001 148 thou has got steering wheel judder starting even when on tick over it moves very slightly back n fro. whats the most likely cause of this? as my steering has been fine up till now ie not hard or snatchy like its starting to be. any ideas help on this lads would be great oh is this a mot failure as well just to add to my woes lol.

Hi Andy,

Obviously not something many people have come across, I assume you have checked all the obvious things, tyre pressures and damage, fluid level, signs of leaks, damage, leaks on the rack, belt tightness etc?

Bleed the power steering system as follows:

Take of the PAS filler cap and make sure fluid is to the MAX mark. Start the engine and allow it to idle. get someone to turn the steering lock to lock while you watch the fluid level. If the fluid level drops add more fluid and repeat the operation until the fluid no longer drops and there are no visible bubbles in the fluid.

Other than that the only theory I can come up with is that there is a leaky seal somewhere that is allowing the pump pressure to blow back.

Sorry I can't be more help, good luck

Hi,
do you mean the steering wheel "pulses" even when stationary.. - on Tick-over??,

Or are you saying the wheel "pulses" when you are crawling at @ 4mph,
if it does it stationary then almost 100% air in system,

otherwise likely to be a geometry issue = pot-hole damage,

not likely to be an MOT issue unless it's REALLY bad

thanks for your reply btw it does it on tickover then carries on untill a certain speed then you dont notice it.i had an old 405 td peugeot est once with 177 thou on the clock which had [jerky] steering mine is nowhere near as bad tbh but thing is when your car has been and still is i might add so reliable you notice when something changes lol.bit like that VW advert with the squeaky earings lol..thanks again andy.

good news found out today what it was it was a huge bulge in my front tyre all that worrying was it this was it that etc mind you we were lucky cos we have just returned to s.wales from cambridge ..

must have been an air lock but wow we were dead lucky with that tyre and i'd only a day before been and had all the tyre pressures checked i've had a bulge in a tyre b4 but never had the same probs .
