Technical Playing music from phone

Hi all,
I have a 60 plate punto evo and I'm having trouble playing music from my iPhone 6, and wondering whether it is actually possible to play music from my phone through my car speakers

I think you need some a2dp usb to aux adapter, you'll pair your phone to it so it streams to aux

Tho don't know if It works with iphone too, but for android, that's the way to go, if you have both usb and aux ports

I'm in exactly the same situation as alice (same car, year and phone) however this is nearly 2 years on. The problem is that the car only has a usb socket and when connecting my phone using the charger lead it says there is 'no media found' however ive installed songs through iTunes and they are already downloaded and ready to play.
Yet when looking at the blue and me usb adapter it states that a 60 plate shouldn't need the adapter. Have any alternatives been found? like has blue and me have a software patch I need to possibly install or?

Use a memory stick to store your music....It's that simple....No faffing about pairing the phone or other issues, use your phone to talk to other people that's what they are for.. aren't they
I have about 100 albums on my memory stick and its ready to go as soon as i want it

I have a 2011 EVO and use an iPhone 6s, When I plug it in, it just works. The car isn't great at controlling the music, so I have a dash holder to pick the playlists and tracks directly on the phone screen, however, it does just plug in and work. My car has the blue and me USB media port but is also has an aux input next to the USB port, I wonder if this denotes a change in the Blue and Me system, Mine is definitely Blue and Me2 maybe you're car has the older set up that does need the adaptor. I would try putting a couple of MP3 files on a USB stick and see if it works.
Also does you're car have the ability to voice control the Blue and Me, this is something I have on my Evo.

I have about a decade of music stored on my iPhone and in multiple plays lists set out exactly how I want them. When I update my phone it updates all the playlists and music on the new phone with no hassle whatsoever.

I can't remember the last time I used a USB stick for anything, To put one together for music I would have to convert all my iTunes music to MP3 Files that the car would understand, then I would have to spend hours carefully creating folders and laying out the tracks in the folders how I wanted. I have thousands of tracks so this would take a very long time, then every time I downloaded something new I would have to add that to the USB stick as well.

I don't have to pair the phone with the car for this to work, I just plug it in, the first time there is a security message on the phone about allowing the car to access the music, once you have clicked ok to that then it works every time, just plug it in.

All in all, using a USB stick is far more of a Faff than just plugging in my phone, also I should add, I have 3 cars, a Mini a VW and the Punto EVO, my phone connects to the others in much the same way without any hassle. I'm not sure the mini or VW would read the USB stick set up for the Punto So I'd need to do an SD card for the VW and different USB stick for the mini..... Or I'll just stick to my phone for all 3.

I also have the added advantage of the phone satnav through the car's speakers and the phone mounted on the dash, so I get the same set up as if I had spent a fortune on the Fiat TomTom unit, In my phone.

USB sticks are fine, about 12 years ago.

Uploading music onto a usb would just mean more faffing now and in the future, I have all my music on my phone and if there is any music I want to listen to straight away instead of inputting more music files onto a usb I can have it straight away on my phone via streaming.
But yet the functionality of a smartphone now enables more than just calling and texting... as well as I pay monthly for Spotify premium yet not using that service I pay for when music is suitable to be played such as in a car would be silly and there would be no point in even having it yet I enjoy having Spotify premium.

Yeah since you have the AUX next to the USB and mine hasn't this may explain why I have a different experience than you when plugging it in. But, it could possibly be as you said an older blue and me system to yours yet I can like you use voice command when operating the system. Tomorrow ill be looking to update the blue and me system in the car and see if that does anything.

I have a 2011 Punto Evo GP and it also has just the USB with no aux - and apparently doesn’t need the blue & me adaptor either. I have had the car 2 years and never been able to play music from my iPhone 6s with the original apple cable.

I have updated the blue and me to the latest software (what a faff on that was) and still no luck.

I gave up and decided to look for an alternative, and found a Bluetooth FM transmitter that plugs into the cigarette lighter and connects to your phone via bluetooth (you can connect your phone to blue and me and also the FM transmitter at the same time).

There is also a little button on the top of the fm transmitter that allows you to go to the next or previous track, all without touching your phone.

It’s great, I have Spotify playing through the speakers without any wires, changing songs when necessary and if a call comes through, the music pauses and the blue and me system takes over to let you accept, talk, end and then the music continues.

Google Maps, Waze, Apple maps all come through the speaker too.

I just keep mine plugged in all the time, and as soon as you start the car, you connect to the car and the transmitter and you have Spotify at your fingertips from the get go.

The best way is still memory sticks using usb socket
Apple's music format is **** at the best of times you can't beat MP3 at 320 kps its as good as your going to get to CD quality

iTunes music is 256kbs more than enough for the *cough* top quality audio system fitted to most fiats, assuming you can hear the music over the rattle and squeaks. Lets face it we're not dealing with a top of the line Bang an Olufson or bose set up...

I always have my phone on me... I don't need to carry anything else, plugs into all my cars and doesn't need hours of careful organisation to get it to read the files properly and in the right order, also I can just create a playlist of music I already have without having to duplicate the same files all over the place.

Its not needed thanks. Realistically the Blue and Me system should be plug and play with any iPhone, its not the users fault if Fiat and microsoft can't get together to make these things work, however as previously stated it works fine for me, some people have problems and this is the fault of fiat not the user, Why should some people have to use a work around for a faulty system?

I have 15Gb of music on my iPhone, about 3000 songs, I also have a multitude of podcasts and other crap, yet still have 70GB left of storage space on my 128Gb iPhone, I think 1Tb might be a bit overkill for me, or indeed, anyone, a quick google search suggests you could get 200,000 files on a 1TB hard drive, which would take you 17,000 hours to listen to. Also, an iPhone is a solid state device so less likely to get damaged being banged about in a bag or in the car compared to a cheap platter type hard drive. Or, why would anyone go out and spend another £170 on a solid state hard drive when they can get their entire music collection on a £5 16gb SD card, or alternatively, and this is the main point here; use their phone where it is already stored!

So what we have learned from this, is that if you already have all your music stored on your phone then its far easier to just plug your phone in and use it. If this doesn't work then the fault is with the Blue and Me system and not your choice of phone or file type.

You clearly don’t get how forums work.

Person has a problem, people offer solutions to fix the problem they are having.

What you’re doing hear is telling someone the best way to fix a hole in the roof, is to pitch a giant tent over the whole house costing far more And being far more complicated.

Using a USB stick is one solution, but not the best solution. Spotify/Deezer/etc need a phone, navigation needs a phone, taking phone calls needs a phone. The ideal solution, which I will be doing in my MiTo at some point, is to chuck the B&M unit in the bin and get a decent aftermarket headunit so that I can do all of the above from my phone, while also charging it. Yeah, it'll cost more than a USB stick (which I do keep in my car for those times when I'm in a poor signal area and can't get Spotify), but it's far more flexible.

Someone above provided a link to a product they claim is their solution to playing their music from their phone to the cars speakers. It can be classed as a solution because the two don't interfere with each other as the individual stated. It costs about the same as a USB or considerably less depending on the storage capacity and allows individuals like myself to play music which is stored on my phone and don't own any CDs/Albums I can burn the songs onto a USB.


At the end of the day for someone in my situation who pays for a service such as spotify and doesnt have a massive libary of music already pre downloaded id much rather look for a solution which allows me to utilise a service i pay for and enjoy rather than using my time to transfer music files to a usb.


So, youve given a solution, yes great, however it isnt a solution some of us want as its more of a hinderance retrospectively to us who use their phones daily for music.

They do the job YES but the sound quality is very poor and there is a constant hiss like in the old days of cassettes
My head unit has wifi so I can also stream music but its a bit hit and miss on wifi reception.

Yes there may be a little hiss when no music is being played, but once you’ve got music on you cannot hear it at all. The sound quality is superb, just like listening to the radio. Bass is great too.

Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it it’s a great cheap solution that saves time and effort, and if paying for a music subscription like many of us do now, a USB isn’t an option.

You should try using a phone, I have an amazon prime subscription and it buffers several songs ahead, that way even when the signal drops out for a mile or two the music keeps playing, I’m sure your fancy WiFi head unit should have a connection for a phone?
Makes it all a bit pointless carrying a 1Tb hard drive about with you tbh
