Right im upgrading the speakers in my new Punto from stock :)

i had these ones in my old car so i kept them

they are
Pioneer TS-E1775
17cm 2 Voies Co-axial 2way
180w MAX
35w Nom
4 (ohms) impedance

Pictures here of them

In my local scrappies they have these swish looking alpine ones
6 1/2 Inch / 16.5cm DIN
Alpine SXE-1725s
220W Peak
40w RMS
IMP 4 ohms

Which would be better? Sound quality/Volume

Gotta be quick tho - as they will probably be snapped up quickly

I know nothing about Speakers values - all i know is they need a + and - feed from the HU

Ziggy

Same here,

Those Alpine Type-E's are specifically designed for use with stock and aftermarket head units. They don't require external amping to work and they are designed to install straight into most European cars.

I had the component versions in my old Punto, never missed a beat!

One bit of advise; solder (and possibly heatshrink) the wires to them if you can, so they don't loosen on speed bumps, etc...

You got better sound from a CD?
Mine sound a lot better from a CD because a radio always muffles slightly as it's near impossible to get a 'perfect' signal. Aswell as this, bass performance is poor from radio broadcasts.

Very true. CD will sound better thanall other sources, including MP3/Ipod, etc). CDs are processed using a high quality Digital-To-Analogue converter producing a very flat frequency response.

If your radio has got a 'loundness' or 'loud' option turn it on. That always used to improve the sound from my type E's, especially when I removed my old sub.

Personally I wouldn't go and just tweak the bass, because you might find going from rock to HipHop to Dubstep a bit annoying! ;)

The loudness produces the 'disco smile', a small boost to lower and higher frequencies that are often lost when the speakers aren't at full crank. Not something you'd do to a reference indoor Hifi, but can work miracles in a near-stock car audio system.

It's all good. :)

I'll be writing up guide to amping door speakers up to approx 50 watts without re-wiring the doors on here, as somebody on UKFN asked me how its done earlier. Might be of use to somebody around here I'm sure!

sometimes there is no real reason to rewire the doors to amp speakers depending on what you want.. I tapped in behind the stereo and used the standard wiring into the doors. But if someone is going for the full thing, that would definately be useful mate!!

To be honest that was exactly what I would put to do and its how I wired speakers in my last car:

In many cases you don't need to do anymore, particularly if you're working around 50 watts RMS at 4 ohms, like most 'reasonably priced' components.

Some of Blaupunkt and Focal's latest amps use this kind of 'plug n play' wiring. Have a look at Blaupunkts PnP amps and Focals new active sub \ 2 channel amp combo!
