Looks good on paper seems to be able to do anything you want a unit to do.

yea ive used them, defnitly not a bad unit though why this one?
if its for ipod functionality then i'd prefer the alpine 9887 for example
if its for equaliser and pre-outs then the sony 929 would out perform
if its for the screen then the sony would deliver this as well
or functionality the kenwood 8041 does near everything plus bluetooth
it depends what you want from your unit, thats a summary of what i like around the same sorta price range, in fact all cheaper. good luck whatever you buy

im not a massive fan of alpine head units tbh, over rated as i would say.. i like the way the pioneer looks, i use an ipod but it fills up with not even a third of the music im into so im starting to use mp3 discs again.. sony 929 which one is this???

I not a big fan of sony had an xplod sub once and that was a bit naff compared to other things in its price range and it not good for higher end either TBH. They try an make them look good (and fail) and try stupid gimmics that get no respect in my books.

theres a link, cheap as 120 quid, nice unit, good in terms of sound capabilities,has the same sorta look and layout, does all your usual stuff (radio, mp3 cd, aux), think it has a usb port, whether that allows ipod connectivity is another thing, im just recalling from memory, sold and installed a few of them over the last few months
i will vouch for alpine in terms of ipod, ive used them all and when i connect my ipod 2 listen 2 music in store i always choose alpine, bit better laid out and faster response. sony and kenwood are terrible, but pioneer is a good rival

The pioneer look much sexier also it has telephone functions and other extra bits. The 6000ub similar to the sony and £115.

it doesnt have a telephone function. like most up class head units it has an accesory slot allowing you to add the bluetooth accesory which in the case of pioneer is CD-BTB200 which costs near the same price as the unit itself
as for looks its a matter of taste, the lack and positioning of buttons is not user friendly in certain modes like ipod, radio where they have taken away buttons everyone is used to for the sake of style
i dont rate sonys speakers one bit, xplod is weak and i'd advise anyone against them, not good products what so ever, sold hundreds and hundreds of their head units and cant recall one being returned, their portable media division has always been good and is reflected in their car audio

hmm its given me something to think about i have an alpine CDE -9817R
i payed 100 quid for it as my kenwood broke, it has a cross-over controls etc etc, but i think its the most ugliest unit i've come across, the ipod control is pretty good, but tbh i think the p700 is gonna be the one that is deliverd to my house
