I'm thinking of purchasing a 1977 124 Spider but I'm concerned about parts availability in the US. But when I search for parts on Autozone.com I find a lot of options which Autozone says fit the car, and the prices are reasonable. It can't really be that easy, can it? I've heard it's supposed to be difficult and expensive to find parts for old foreign cars, so what am I missing?

Sorry for the very newbie question. I'm new to classic cars and a little intimidated be the idea of owning a foreign niche vehicle. Thanks for the advice!

Lots of new parts fit old cars, and you can simply buy those you've seen.

What you're missing? Lots of parts aren't available new, then you'll be scouring the country for old parts or someone to custom make new.

Youll need plenty of free time and patience.

Most of the classic Fiat 124 Spider's were exported to the U.S. and most (afaik) of the parts specialists for this model are in the U.S. Here's a few websites (just off the top of my head, there's probably more) you might check out, parts availability seems to be excellent for a car so long out of production :-
