Hi, I am new to the Forum and maybe the most distant poster?

I am in Vientiane in Laos, southeast Asia, owner of a 1994 Panda, which I drive in the city beside the Mekong River. It is one of a set of 100 Pandas which were brought in to the country 10 years ago. They have their advantages in that if stuck in a large pool of mud in the rainy season (that's what the roads tend to become) you can almost pick them up and lift them out, unlike the more substantial and macho jeeps and 4x4s. Now of course, due to lousy roads, heat and general old age, they are falling apart in many ways.

Like the problem probably suffered by Mower in a post titled Oil Leak, the Constant Velocity Joint Boots are perished. No-one brought any spares into the country with the cars so unless we can cannibalise it we can't get it, and so far I have not been able to get any, with the Rotor Seals, here. I have posted a parts wanted Classified, as friends will be coming over here from the UK in March and they could bring the parts for me - it being pretty difficult to get things shipped here from online sources. So if anyone has good ideas about a source for these, or has them, I would be very grateful. Right now the car is sitting, leaking.

Cheers

Hi!

I think the most distant "pandistas" are from Japan, but you are not far from Japan (from our point of view, of course:))
Buying boots is no problem in Poland, but I have no idea how to bring them to Vientiane. I think we have no air connection from Warsaw to Vientiane:bang: And the parcel by post will be dear. But I'll check it(y) Or maybe Pandistas from Japan will help you, they have Panda shops and services in Japan. I'll try to ask one of them, and I'll give you his mail adress on PM, if he'll agree, of course.

Wow I bet Jim is thinking about his next distance meet in Sylvia, A very warm Welcome to the site Mekong (y)

The parts are easilly available from Fiat part's dealers world wide, but as you say it's the problem of getting them to you. For the inner boots that hold in the gearbox oil I would only get them from Fiat as it's not worth the risk of getting a cheap alternative...

Have you got any pics of the cars in Vietnam? I'm assuming they are 4x4....

Just looked at the list of world dealers there are a few in Vietnam...

I checked the cost of a parcel to Laos. It's about 16 euro for economic parcel, so not so bad. But I don't know how long will it take to go from Warsaw to Vientiane;)

PS. And what about parts for other Fiats, for example Uno, in Laos? The boots should be the same.
