Dear Panda members,
I'm currently working on our 2010.Panda 1.2 and I'm.in the process of removing the entire rear axle
as I have purchased a new axle unit. Currently I'm removing the nearside rear stub axle as I want to transfer it to the new suspension axle.. Two of the.nuts that hold the stub axle to the suspension axle came of easily. In contrast the two lower nuts were so corroded to the studs , the studs themselves came out of the
stub axle. Naively I assumed the stub axle would now just slip off the support frame but it's locked
solid the live axle support frame and I assume rust has bonded the two parts together. If I can't remove this side or the right hand side
I may have to give up on this job and abandon the restoration task.
I want to ask if these stub axles are available for this car. I've googled 'stub axle' and
numerous results have come back but none so far for a Panda. Hope someone here can give me
some guidance.
Thanks in anticipation.

They are called Steering Knuckle in the Fiat parts catalogue.
For a drum braked car they may well be
51784871 and 51784873, but you should check your specific car on Eper (link at top of forum page) using your own VIN.
They can be a bit of a pig to free off, but some levering and firm tapping (not a clout with a sledgehammer) should move them.

Thank you so much for this information. I'll revise my search text now you told me the proper name for those parts.

Yes it's very useful, thank you. I've yet to remove the live axle, it's still attached to the car.
I may halt the steering knuckle removal until I've removed the live axle from the car. There
is so much corrosion on the components. Sprayed the 4 nuts with Permatex release
fluid and teased the top 2 nuts off of the stub's studs but the lower pair
put up a lot of fight and when they finally were removed they brought the studs with them.
I will likely get new studs. Now though , the steering knuckle is still attached to the live axle.
It's bonded to the support frame. I may try using heat to aid the separation. Plus
some impact as you did !

Can you suggest where I can get the steering knuckles from ? I did see prices on ePIR but I
suspect it's just a database and not a link to a shop front.

I can't take credit for the video, stolen from YouTube just trimmed to the bit of interest, there's a couple up there which may or may not help, I tend to do things my own way and just refer to instruction or video as a last resort

I did a quick search for another thread and there were a couple secondhand assemblies on eBay including the brake back plate in reasonable condition

Such as

You probably will not need it though

Back plates are different pre and post 2009, Bosch then Delphi brakes

Thanks for the link. I went on their eBay page and found it. Sadly not for the
Left hand side. Will try later today to get the stuck stub axle off. Will post if any success !
