The CL (blue one in the picture below) has come home to die;)

home-to-die.jpg

It has terminal tinworm in the sills and rear inner wheel arch sections..

rotten-sill.jpg

sill at the rear (the vertical rippling to the right of the hole is previous "plating")

rotten-sill2.jpg

this is front UK passenger side sill below the door - where the 2 or 3 sheets join at the bottom of the sill... there is nothing there anymore.

When I recover from the nightshifts I'm working at the moment I intend to dismantle it, and save all the useful bits - it has already donated the following parts:
wheel trims
locking petrol cap
parcel shelf
sundry bits of trim
screwdriver(!)
jack
decent spare tyre
the alloy tube for ducting warm air into the airbox

In the first picture, lefthand of the two CLXs is its replacement - 1994 "M", with servo brakes, and the later gearbox.

I'm slowly getting it sorted out again... perhaps the biggest outstanding issue is the occasional loud "clonk!!" from underneath when going from drive to over-run in second gear, or sometimes on taking up drive in reverse.
I suspect it is the exhaust - as there is a lot of heat shielding under the car, due primarily to the catalyser - and have been wondering about the rear engine mount being sloppy causing excessive movement, but can't resolve it at the moment.

(BTW, PandamanPaul, is this part the same, regardless of which gearbox??? If so, I've got an idea where I can get one from :I:I)

Hi John.
Sorry to hear about the terminal tin worm. [xx(] R I P.
My M reg Panda also made a loud clonking noise for a while. I
suspected the Omega suspension, it wouldn't do it when loaded, but
the noise stopped before I could look at it.
Yours sounds as if it could be a drive shaft or maybe even a ball joint.
Happy Pandering.:D

Are you a music fan ? Is it a case of 'don't let it die' or 'another-one bites the dust' ? It looks nothing to me (ah Vienna {sic})[)]
C'mon....it's a nice car. Sopend a few quid on it .:D

HHmmmmmmm

I often considered buying a cheap panda off ebay to use for spares.. but i haven't got the heart to pull one apart and kill it, h-how c-couldd you?? *Wahhh!!* :( Pandas have feelings!

No, it's not: It's got nasty structural corrosion.

Rust free doors though... you want some doors which aren't rusty??

Unlikely: joints are good, and it's just been MOTd for me (rather than bought with a dubious ticket)

Also, it has done what appears to be a genuine 40K miles :D:D.

I will let you know what the clonk turns out to be, when I get a chance to sort it out.

Rust-free doors ? yes please.........how much, delivered to West Yorkshire ? (nice day out, Bronte country, great pubs )
As for breaking Pandas...Sandra and I have 'recycled' 7 this year so far...'tis better than the scrapper....at least they live on.

HHmmmmmmm

Hmmmmm... Re the doors

I'll try and get some pictures posted up tomorrow, so we all know what they're like.

TBH I can't see delivering them - the time and fuel costs would probably exceed their value.

On the other hand..
in amongst the debris of your seven have you got a good* 5 speed 'box for a "FIRE" engined Panda??

Hmmmm, indeed:)

* rod change, no grumbles, howls or whines, and working synchromesh on all forward gears.

============================

Late addition to above "door" issue:

on Ebay there are some doors nearer you -

Huddersfield any good??

Thank you for that John O'H...I'm going for the Huddersfield doors et al.
I've recently sold my only decent spare 5 speed box...sorry.

I`d be interested in the front grill and time clock

It's a CL - no clock.

The front grille looks reasonable, but only has three mounting points intact - due to the crash it had a year or so ago - and of those three ISTR that one or two of those is araldited back together..

Will see if I can produce a picture of it, and assess its strength.

Where in the UK are you??

RE the doors:

the ripples are car park "adjacent door opening" damage.

There you go - a bit cleaner under the doors.

The black bits below the drain holes seems to be rust proofing gunge.

Grille picture is a bit fuzzy, I'm afraid, and it could do with a clean up.

The damaged location point is the bottom right hand corner...

You can probably see the grooves sliced into the bumper where it was pushed back into the mounting brackets :(
