As promised in a previous thread. Her is a picture of my office chair. It is a resurrected Panda Colour passenger seat. Recliner still works, great for mid afternoon dozing!

Ta. :D No, couple of hours or so. Strip seat of unecessary components. Underneath just weld two bars front to back the same width of the swivel chair mounting bracket. Make sure they're centralised, obviously. Present swivel chassis and find comfy balance point. Drill through the bars using the chassis as template. Some bolts through the holes and there you go.

The longest part was actually preparing the seat. Had to remove seat belt receiver thing and other unwanted items. That took about an hour in itself.

I'll take some pics of underside next time I'm at work.

My only advice is to find a decent swivel chassis as the seat is heavier than your normal typists chair. It knocked out the damper in the first chassis I used in about six months. This one is still bearing the load after about 18 months. Got the chassis from local waste disposal site off of the metal skip.

Made two, one for me and one for ex-girlfriend who actually crashed the bloody thing originally.

O right. lol. Just scanned the above and thought you meant the desk chair:D

Not that you'd want to, but i think it would be interesting to see what they would sell for on eBay. They look nice and comfy!

Yes they are really comfy. I balanced it so that I can actually recline right back without it tipping over. Many a lunch hour is spent snoring me head off!

You could do it with any car seat really I guess, whatever you've got in the shed or garage.

Nipped over to work and took some pics of the underside to show how smple it is. One error though, the two bars run side to side not back to front. I think the pics are fairly self explanatory.

and this "42 year old bloke " is claiming to be "useless" ????
i think its great , can you think up a line of 'garden furniture' for me please....
gina :p

That's great! :D I've been meaning to make something like that for ages. Though I was thinking about finding some flash motor with electric controls, and heated seats etc! :slayer:

Hopefully this will motivate me, maybe I will start with my Panda seat, you don't wind if I copy you! (y)

Cheers Gina, but promise you I am actually useless! You don't get to 42 and have only a leaky house, two greedy cats and the world's most unreliable Multipla to your name with out being useless! Have a look at my profile picture, it'll prove my uselessness. I appear to have the Mayoresses hat on....

Gina, I am so useless that if I fell in a barrell of lollipops, I'd come out sucking me thumb!

(And the garden furniture, certainly. I used to have two old toilet pans in the garden as planters, full of pansies. And you can screw the cisterns to the wall or shed or similar to make planters as well. Leave the flush handle on for effect, obviously! Also urinals make super planters screwed to the wall or shed. This though may not be to your taste.....)

However, I still have the complete back seat from the Panda in the loft as well and intend to make a sofa out of it one day. My original plan was to make a three piece suite out of them a la the Top Gear furniture as was, but the ex, who it still a good mate, requested an office chair (she did crash the car, after all....), so there you go.

And Nitro, no of course, copy away. I feel a new sport coming on - Panda office chair racing.......

:) Mandapanda, provide me with a seat and a dead office chair and I'll make you one no problem.

However, not tonight, as it's 3 in the morning and I've just sunk a bottle of red and seven Penguin biscuits and frankly I'm not sure who I am, where I am or what day it is. There is a cat here so I must be in the vicinity of my house, so we're ok.

Thank heavens I'm on leave, at least I can vomit in the privacy of my own home.....

:D I'm going to bed now while I can still make the stairs and remove my own trousers unaided. Ladies, how can you resist ....... lol (y)
