Hi everyone. I have a 2011 panda with the ABS light on. I want to buy a code reader to check it out but the ones I have tried (and returned), have had no compatability with this year. Up to 2007, and after 2012 no problem, but nothing in between. Anyone know of a code reader that will do the job?

I believe at 2011 it's still Bosch ABS ver 8

If so the free multiECUscan should work with a cheap elm327 adapter and A1 adapter

You will need a windows laptop

Delphi and WoW both work on the 2005, 2006 and 2010 panda I owned

I believe I have also used a cheap switch vag-com KKL cable but I may have only accessed the airbag as that's what I bought the cable for, but should also work for the ABS

This should work on an android phone https://www.alfaobd.com/ but I haven't tried to access anything other than the ECU myself

Thanks Koalar. I'll have to look up the various adapters you mention. It's all a little over my head at the moment. Appreciate your held, thanks again.

Hi, you'll need three things:
Software from www.MultiECUScan.net
OBDII reader
Cable adapter for the ABS module

I got this OBDII with all cables, works well:
Also available from www.gendan.co.uk, official suppliers and give good support.

Other options here: https://www.fiatforum.com/threads/cheap-scanners-known-to-work.496967/#post-4656812

MES works best on a Windows laptop. Free version does most basic functions, paid version for more advanced features.

Plenty of users on here, I had good support getting mine set up and running.

Just had a look on the gendan site, the ecu scan supports the panda from 2012 onwards. 2011 not covered!

Excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by cable adapter for the abs module? Is there a separate socket for the abs? You are dealing with a complete novice I'm afraid!

I have Multiecuscan - MES as it's often refered to - and I've had it for about 6 years. Our Panda is a 2010 1.2 and it communicates very well with it. I'd strongly recommend you give Gendan a ring and have a chat about it. I asked a shed load of questions about my purchase before finally buying from them and they were very very helpful and not at all pushy. Many of us on here have it so there's shed loads of free support on the forum - you just have to wait a wee bit sometimes until someone picks up on your post and answers. You can download the software free here https://www.multiecuscan.net/ and experiment with it in "simulate" mode to get an idea of what you can do with it. I honestly can't think of a better option for the likes of us. It lets you do very simple stuff if you're not experienced or much more advanced stuff, not far off what the dealer tool can do, as you get more confident and gain knowledge. It also has very good prompts on the screens to help you with diagnostics and procedures. I wouldn't be without mine. By the way, I'm just a "driveway grease monkey" and have no commercial link to either Gendan or MES. Just in case you think my enthusiasm is a bit over the top!

Thanks Jock, I'll give them a call.

If you get one off these Switched KKL cable
Around a £5

You don't need any adaptors

Plus the free software and Windows laptop

It will connect to the ABS,steering and airbag modules

But it will not connect to anything canbus like the dash

Diagnosed and cleared an airbag code with mine, it's not what I normally use, but it worked fine

Not to worry I was a complete novice at this too a couple of years ago and relied heavily on the help of the kind and patient folk on this forum! Now I wouldn't be without MES.

It's the same socket but most OBDII readers won't access the ABS (or power steering, airbag etc).

To read ABS codes you need this ABS cable adaptor plugged into the OBDII socket, or the one koalar posted above.

I'm not sure where you're seeing that it doesn't work with a 2011 car? I have the free MES software and it works fine on my 2004.

Maybe just confusion that MES only list model years when a significant change was made, not every model year?

But yes, I'm sure a call to Gendan will clear things up.

I have one of these
eBay item 155073479073 from Universal Disgnostics
Message the seller for the full kit with adapters. It works fine with multiecuscan.net on a windows notebook computer. My older OBD connector refused to work (causing me hassle) so things do change.

Have another look or contact them. I had a 2011 until recently and it is certainly included. Its not always crystal clear which thing you stipulate as your car but its there.

I got hold of the multiecoscan package from gendan. After trying several others, I used the panda 2003 listing and it worked. Shame the new speed sensor is not working and the abs light is still on. Are cheapo speed sensors from ebay known to be a problem. I have just ordered another from a different supplier. Hope it works. Thanks for all your help everyone.

I think it's hard to beat MES for folk like us. I did find it a bit difficult to get the interface to work with the laptop but it was all about settings and I got it fixed in the end with help from Grant at Gendan and a lot of help from folk here on the forum. one of the features I find very useful when looking for problems is being able to graph live data from sensors etc and the computer screen lets you see this in a nice big format so you can easily pick up on small deviations in waveform.

Regarding sensors and other components I've learned my lesson big time regarding non original brands. Sometimes they work and sometimes not. Trouble is once you've fitted it you tend to assume, if the problem doesn't go away, that it's not the sensor or component that's at fault so you waste loads of time looking for something else being at fault when all along it's the new "cheapo" part you've just fitted which is not up to the job. OEM big name parts only for me.

What's the code

What's the live data on all 4 counters look like

Error on one wheel is likely to be

Sensor
Bearing
Wiring

Sensors rarely fail so I normally buy from a breakers, or motor factors

Something's I buy online, but because it has a brand label it does not mean that what you get

I trust cheaper brands at GSF they have never let me down yet

I've had the same problem recently with the ABS light coming on after doing some work on the drums. I got Multiecuscan on a Windows laptop, borrowed the cable adaptors from a friend (green one mentioned above is needed for Bosch ABS controllers), connected with my OBDLink LX Bluetooth scanner and was able to see the errors on the ABS module, along with being able graph the live data from all the wheel speed sensors - the one throwing the error was occasionally giving erratic readings well out of line with the other three wheels.

I've got a replacement Febi ABS sensor, about €25 on Autodoc. Haven't fitted it yet, hopefully it's not junk. There's still the chance the ring on the wheel hub is damaged too.

Rear wheels bearings have a magnetic ring around the bearing. IIRC the fronts have a magnetic sticker on the searing seal.

The sensors almost always get seized solid and have to be brutalised to get them out. Then there's the retaking screw. Be VERY careful to not shear that off. I fit mine with a layer of high solids anti seize paste inside the sensor hole and of course on the screw threads. It's never affected the ABS signals but has allowed me to get them out at a future time.

The correct answer is already given
