Without me having to go and look out all my documantation, etc...

does anyone know if new bravos come with some sort of paint protection scheme?

I just noticed that I have a bubble in the paint on the bootlid near the badge. It looks like there might have been a stone chip which has then let water in under it. (n)

So any ideas anyone?

According to eLearn, 90% of the bodywork is galvanised, all the underbody is, and most of the wings, doors, bonnet etc. The only exceptions are things like dash mounting brackets that are "not at risk of corrosion". The whole lot is phosphated, stoved, undercoated, stoved, painted, laquered and stoved.

All seems fairly state of the art to me.

Okay, its galvanised, etc...but i definitely have a rather large bubble in the paint, with a black spot in the middle of it on my bootlid!

No-one any idea about paint protection or if they got any when they bought their Bravo?

You wouild like to think that it would be covered. However, stonechips aren't!! Paintwork is covered by defective workmanship which a stone chip is not.

How old/mileage is the car? As you provide no info other than a bubble has appeared

Only polish. At least they say mine will have such...So you can polish it - it offers some protection I guess...

Sorry dude, I mean like paint protection insurance. I know some manufacturers give what is almost a warranty for a certain amount of time on the paint on their new cars. Obviously polish can help your paint but its not the info I'm looking for. Thanks for the input though! (y)

I think I'm going to take it in to them Danny to be honest. But I'll have a hunt for all my documentation first and see if I there is any kind of paint warranty type thing. Cheers!

yeah I realise that but its on the rear of the car, which should see far less abuse than the front! Even over the past couple of weeks with gritters etc out there are no marks on the front.

I dont even know if its a stone chip, i can just see a tiny black spot in the middle of the bubble on the painwork...and its a perfect round bubble.

The car has done about 10,000 miles and is only 8 months old!

I washed it just after new year and it wasnt there at that point, so its relatively new. I wouldnt expect paint to bubble as quickly as that from a chip, if it is a chip, when it has been relatively dry here.

Edit:

Just checked the Fiat website and all new fiats are covered with a 3 year paintwork warranty and an 8 year Anti-perforation warranty.

The details of which are:

"If the paintwork on your new Fiat suffers any defects in the first three years, we'll put it right for free."

and

"Of course, neither you nor we would ever expect your new Fiat to suffer any corrosion problems in its first eight years. However, should any corrosion occur - which can cause a perforation (or hole as it's more commonly known) - you're protected by an eight-year warranty."

So....off to the dealer I go as soon as I can to see if they can do anything. If you dont ask, you dont get in my view!

Get it checked out by a Fiat Dealer - corrosion gurantee should cover you from corrosion from the inside. I also had some warranty work undertaken on my old Stilo which had a paint defect, looked like it was a run so yes if it's a paint defect and the paint is original it'll be covered. Have you owned it from brand new?

Yeah I've owned it from new. It was pre-reg from Arnold Clark but I got it the day after it arrived in the country. technically it wasnt new from Fiat so isnt covered by the 5 year warranty but yes, it was new.

I'll take it in and see what they say, its all i can do!

at 8 months old I would be surprised if fiat don't dort it even if only as a gesture of good will, would be poor showing othersise. keep us posted

notice its wording - corrosion causing perforation not perforation causing corrosion, so only covered if its from under the paint outwards - they'll have somebody from the bodyshop look at it and say its a stone chip - demand they get a paint expert to look at it or you'll contact fiat uk head office - they will soon back down
