Can someone tell me what tool is required to remove the sump plug. I am open to recommendations of oil to use too, I have what sounds like a sticking tappet which I mentioned in a previous thread.

An explanation for those who think I am asking a strange question, I am currently thousands of miles from my car and will need to change the oil on my return, while I am here I will be buying some more tools and can add this if not got it.

to undo the plug you will need the tool, motorfactors or halfords will have one.
as for the oil if you have a diesel 5w/30 synthetic is reccommended petrol 10w/40 synthetic.

OK what tool are we talking about? if it is a normal hex bolt I will have the metric socket, if it is an allen key type bolt I may need to buy one.

As to oil I was hoping for a recommendation of brand, for instance if I go to Castrol site they say either Edge 0W-30 & (5W-40) or Magnatec 10W-40

you need someone with an idea to look at their sump plug to let you know what shape it is. if you want the genuine oil then get selenia, its reccommended by fiat.

If you've got a 1.3 Multijet like me,the sump plug takes a 12mm Allen key,There's no sealing washer on it either(taper thread).
I've used Miller's full synthetic in all my diesel cars since 1990,altho at the last change I put some Selenia WR 5w-40 in-can't say I've really noticed any difference, but as it's the recommended stuff then the engine hopefully appreciates it!

Hope this helps.

Sorry forgot to add my Idea is a petrol engine. I don't have any large allen keys so if someone could confirm the size I may need to buy a set to suit.
