Oh No!!! Major welding for MOT!!!

Hi All,

Apologies not been on for a while, had a sh**e last few weeks with Car...

Have been preping for MOT due 11th August and found the N/S wishbone covered in I guess brake fluid but cant find a leak so unless its from a previous spilage... then my attention comes to a bit of rust on the N/S front jack point on the sil... bit of a poke and whoops my four fingers went through the floor plan hmmm i thought 5\6 inch plate should do the trick only until lastnight i goes to my friends to have it welded and a bit more of a poke and 5/6 inch plate turns into 18 inchs from just behind the jack mount all the way to the corner at the wheel arch.... i just hope this will pass its MOT now

I had exactly the same on the Marea a year back, both sides had gone through due to the jacking points being crushed.

Plated them up, sealed them over and passed the MOT

Darren, did you flatten or reshape the bit that the standard jack sits on.... also did you weld the plate from the floor plan and up on to the outer sil??

I'll be sealing it up with the under body stuff at the weekend...

hiya,

I bashed as much of it back into shape as I could and then added sheet metal to it, I had a couple of small bits left so I used 'mazel metal' to fill it in then coated it in underseal.

I don't know where you can get the liquid metal from (was a friend's)
