Hello learned friends, need some help with OBD2 codes (or lack thereoff) for which the search function didn't provide an answer.

2007 Ducato 2.3 JTD and XXLtech (NX200) OBD2 reader.

I'm living in Switzerland at the moment and my converted Van is due its biannual health check which is similar to an M.O.T only stricter. A lit engine management light, as is the case with my Ducato, is an automatic fail.

Bought the above reader and did a few tests but I am stuck because there appear to be no stored trouble codes.

This is the procedure:
1) Start a scan and wait for it to complete.
2) LCD display shows System status - codes found 1.
3) In the Diagnostic Menu I select read codes.
4) LCD display shows Trouble codes - no codes found.

Whats up? I did clear the codes before the last trip and stop/started the engine several times and everything was fine. I left it standing for a week and the engine management light lit up straight away. Several OBD scans provide the same results as before.

Can anybody help?

Thanks

What is the code.
You need to find out about it,it's no good just wiping them, without sorting the problem.
I'm a mechanic.

But that is exactly my problem Oneill, as per my post. I want to find out what needs fixing and its telling me that its found 1 fault code but when I try to read the fault code its telling me no fault codes found.

Appears your code reader cannot read the code, it knows it is there but cannot determine what it is. Possibly a P1xxx code which is manufacturer specific. Only advice is to try another code reader/upgrade the software in yours or use a dedicated machine for the vehicle....examiner/witech.

Or if your code reader cannot read it,take it to a garage.
I know it going to be expensive, but if they cannot find it,try this trick.
Disconnect both terminals off the battery for 30 mins,be sure to get the radio code.
Connect both cables together securely, but no to the battery for about 30mins
There is a static charge which will be discharged by doing this.
My mate is a master technician at landrover.
This is what they do when they cannot remove a code.
I have a SNAPON ETHOS diagnostic tool, and have used this method several times.
And it's worked.

I previously cleared the fault code with my reader and a subsequent test confirmed that there were no more fault codes present. Does your terminal connection method do more than just reset the fault codes?

Well according to the manufacturer's blurb it should be capable of reading the code.

It doesn't reset the codes.
It removes the static charge which can cause random faults.
You need to plug her into a code reader,a good one and make sure there are no codes.
If the management light is on,there will be a code.
Does your reader have live data on the screen.
You can check everything that way.

Thanks for your help.

Indeed it has live data and I've used it and can see all the readings but, apart from things like rpm, I'm afraid the data doesn't mean very much to me. Is there anywhere I can look for information on the readings?

you have a commercial vehicle not a car
its highly likely your machine cannot read your van
suggest you get a professional scan of your vehicle done
my monies on egr

As I said, your code reader isn't like the one I use for work.
I'd try and get her checked out from a garage.
My tool is about £2000,I'm guessing you've not spent that much on one.
And mine's not the most expensive one on the market, but it does the job.

I'm with O'Neil in putting the vehicle into a specialist.
I'm a HGV technician & we have several different makes of diagnostic test equipment.... but between them all there are numerous codes & faults that they won't pick up ...despite what the makers state.
When the EU brought in the block exemption rulings, manufactures were forced to allow third part software to access their systems, but they only allow the bare minimum access to comply with the rulings

So unfortunately there are many instances of your sort of problem

does M.E.S. work as well on commercial FIAT as on passenger cars..??,

Can confirm that the Multieuscan software works fine on my 2.8jtd engine.
Displays and clears codes and will provide all live data channels with the registered software version plus lots of live test functions (cooling fans etc).
Got software and leads (3) from Gendan, Swansea. Seem pretty clued up on Fiat OBD problems and software and there is a support forum too.
Hope you sort it.

As with Toyogran, I have today run a fault code test on my 2003 2.8JTD engine using multiscan... it took me a while to sort the incorrect com port, but once done it works perfectly....
I'll run it again tomorrow just to make sure the settings haven't changed.

Been to see the experts. The fault code apparently was intermittent and pointed to the glow plugs system. Apparently this can happen at low temperatures and doesn't mean there is a fault.

Don't you just love all these sensors.(n)
