Hi all, new here, as if the prefix didn’t say.
Purchased a 1999 1.9tdi motorhome from someone I thought was trustworthy. Had said motorhome for a month and all has been going well. Until today, returning from Wales, and nearly home. Found it hard, if not possible to get second gear. Guy I bought it from has a receipt for a repair to second gear. Am I wasting time checking on oil levels, or should I put into a gearbox workshop? If the answer is check the oil then where is the drain plug?

It depends which engine and gearbox re oil plugs, others on Forum may be able to advise better but some used the Peugeot/Renault engine and gearbox and used a square tool approx 8mm on a drain plug at bottom of diff housing and a similar filler on the side.
Others fill via a breather at the top to a certain level, some can be checked by removing the speedo gear drive if careful.
It all depends what engine/gearbox configuration.
Re yours if oil level is reasonable then it doesn't sound good re second gear;(
