Hello we bought a 2011 Fiat 500 in July 2013 year and all seemed fine with the wiper blades until only recently they have been catching (right blade catches under the left one) The long drivers blade has been replaced as it caught one time and broke the end of the blade exposing the metal, so immediately replaced the blade and thoroughly cleaned the windscreen but it's still happening... I personally think the resting right blade sits much lower than other fiats I've passed while driving around is it possible that the wiper arm has moved on the spindle(?name) and can easily be adjusted?? I'm the only driver in the family (husband doesn't drive) and I'll give anything a go when it comes to the car but this one has me confused and can't find anything online...any advice?

hi, 2 likely causes,
1, as you say the wiper arm maybe in the wrong place on the spindle..but it should've caught from day 1 if that's the case,
2,the other option is wear in the actual wiper mechanism , under the plastic cover..!!,
Search Wiper in Punto 2/b to see the innards, ( common failure as they are older than the 500 - similar set-up..but more of them)

Hi car eventually went into Fiat and thankfully was still covered under 3rd yr warranty as it needed a new wiper motor and windscreen washers...however when I collected the car (after stood waiting for their driver to collect me from work for 30mins in the cold) I asked what the guarantee is for the new motor part and they said 'none'!.... Which I think it totally unacceptable and even said if the new part fails in 2 months surely it wasn't fit for purpose and it would be replaced! This will just be added to the letter we're compiling!

One reason I found for the wiper blades catching each other is that they are slightly of true.

The way to check is when blades are at rest, look at the windscreen and just under the tip of each blade you will see 3 dots on the screen and this is the alignment marker for setting of the blades.
I tried to take a photo but kept getting my own reflection and you would not want to see that:devil:

glad they fixed it.., does it seem "right"( correct) now..??

in my experience ANYTHING replaced for free under warranty then has ZERO further cover,
that's just how UK consumer law works,

as you say..if it lasts "5 minutes" then you MAY have a -not fit for purpose- issue,

don't think you would get far though..and to be frank, you could replace the parts that ACTUALLY FAILED for @ £30,

anyway enjoy your 500,

Charlie
