Had a quick check in the stickies "useful info thread" to see what the online A500 handbook states and it does indeed recommend the 10W50. Also checked in my paper handbook and the SS supplement and both of them say 10W50 for both types.
Capacity is 2.9L for oil and filter change and most people I know buy 2X2LTR bottles and keep the remaining 1LTR for topping up if required.
I am still confused as I thought I saw on the handbook saying something else... I have saying 5w40 and 10w50 for the essesse model. I am about to buy the Oil online and just not sure. and with oil viscosities I thought the lower the number on the left the better for winter as it would meal less dry run time
If your A500 is under warranty I would use the recommended 10w50 Acea c3 oil in the fancy tin.
If the car is standard that is with no tuning box and you plan to change the oil once a year and less than say 6-9k I can't see the issue with using a high quality 5w40 Acea c3 oil. It's used on the bravo 150bhp and the mito 155bhp and it's a slightly higher state of tune that the 135bhp A500 (it runs 145bhp). Sorry about confusing the issue but the recommend options already previously given are a safe bet.
Then they've clearly never been on a track day or car Italian car festival where A500s have been present. At SpaItalia last year I honestly thought the A500's had been speed limited to 50mph by the organisers. If you listened carefully you could hear Carlo crying from heaven.
Most of them seemed more interested in having the Abarth branded clothing and polishing their cars. One guy told me with a straight face that he'd detailed the inside of his wheel spokes with cotton swabs so there was no way he was taking it on track.
Think about that. He drove from Germany to Spa-Francorchamps and could have had an hour to play on that epic and historic circuit but didn't because he'd painstakingly detailed a part of his car no one would ever see.
And that's before we consider the complete logic fail re getting them dirty around Spa and yet somehow not getting them dirty on the drive from Germany.
I think this is possibly why people at the Ace Cafe Italian night refer to the owners of the group of A500's that show up as the dutch armada.
