Hello I'm new to fiats so bear with me I have a couple off issues that I'm needing help with

1.speakers I have rang up a local company who tell me the size is 16.5 cm and I'm wondering which is most commonly used (aftermarket) off course.

2.headlight problem, when I put my headlights on it has a delay off 20/30 seconds is this normal? Also when your going to from dipped beam to main beam only main beam shows? But if you put the stalk towards me both come on and if you play with the stalk in the end both lights come on but sometimes the worrying part is all the lights go off and I can't get them to come back on (dangerous on a back road)

3. The cars on 50,000 and is 13 years old and doesn't seem to have had the belt changed? When's the interval for it, It's a 1.2 8v?

And finally apart from the clutch and hg what else goes wrong with these fabulous 1.2 8v engines ?

But apart from that its a lovely motor and I'm loving it thanks for reading and any advice is greatly appreciated.

As far as the speakers go, personal preference and budget will determine what you want to get, assuming you're still using the standard headunit though I'd say there's no point changing the speaker unless you plan to change the stereo too.

Can't really help with the headlight issue, but it sounds like either a bad earth or a short somewhere on the stalks.

If the belt's not been changed, it's definitely overdue! I think the interval is around 30k or 7 years, so really should have been done 6 years ago and ready for it's 3rd next year! Luckily the 8v engine is 'safe' so if the belt goes it's not going to cause any damage, but change it (along with the aux belt, waterpump and coolant) for peace of mind. It's a do-able job for a novice and being safe engines, these are great cars to learn on if you've never done your own maintenance before.

Welcome to the forum :)

the punto has ****e speakers, and an upgrade is better, but you will never harness the full use of better speakers with stock HU

Im currently using some Alpin S-line speakers happy with them :)
I think i had grundig in before, again no problems with them :)

Just remember you will need something like this to, to prevent chopping connectors to make them fit

------------

Cambelts for the 1.2 8v is 64K on the mk2 - 72k on mk2b, i dunno why unless im mixing something else up on it
Its meant to be done every 5 years or millage, depending which comes first

Luckily tho the punto is a Interferance free engine - Safe engine
Meaning if the belt snaps, the valves WONT smash into the pistons

And tbh you rarely hear of a 8v engine snapping....
Im currently leaving mine till i either
Snap the belt or the waterpump fails causing an overheat :)

--------------

The lights is an odd one
Since they are working it means the circuit is in-tack, which is a good sign

my worry is as you said, you can loose lights at some point....

i'd be whipping the front lights out to check the condition of the connector, making sure it clean and happy
If 1 bulb is struggling to earth, then the other bulbs might not come on due to lack of earthing ability

Contacts get dirty and can respond well to a good spray of proper contact cleaner - wd40 does but not as good. Put the lights on and your ear to the stalk - any buzzing? Does it get warm when lights are on? Even if you don't find these symptoms a good clean of the innards sorts it most times. I haven't done it on the Punto but reckon the end cap will come off - watch out for flying springs and get the battery disconnected first.
Search function is great:)
