Hi there!

Have been reading through the forum and was wondering if anyone could help?

Was wondering how much it would cost to replace the engine on a K Reg
(1992-1993) fiat Panda? I have a FIRE engine 998 CC in it just now, but suspect that it's pretty much had it...

What sort of price would I be looking at to replace the engine? Would there be a chance of getting one second hand? If so, how much work would it cost to replace?

I love my wee panda (Just don't tell my GF's dad!) and after all the money I've spent on her recently (New radiator, rear shocks, thermostat, exhaust, wheel, plugs, plug leads and MOT), I feel it'd be a shame to write her off completely or sell her on as scrap...
I'm based in Glasgow, Scotland.

If anyone can give me a price, my email is [email protected]
If it's going to cost more to get a new engine / fit it, I'll buy another car, but it would be a shame...

Thanks!

You should be able to pick up an engine for £50-£60 and easy to replace by yourself esp a 2wd one, just need a step ladder, some straps and a few spanners (y)

We (by that I mean Austen) have a 999cc 1992 Panda fire engine available for that price, but it is in Essex:eek:
Its out off his to be trackday car due to it being re-engined with something a touch more powerful!

Keep your eyes open on Fleabay for Panda and Uno FIRE engines (they're the same). A couple of years ago I bought a Uno engine complate with ALL ancilleries, plus the gearbox still attached for a paltry £10! Engines are generally cheap if you buy off someone who's breaking a car rather than from a scrapyard. Even then they're quite cheap at scrappies these days as they don't tend to go wrong often. (y)

Hello Littlerich,

What is wrong with your current engine? If it's all bottom-end problems, then I can help.

I have a good engine lump (75,000mls ... 999 Fire), off which I have used the top end ... camshaft, followers, oil-feed, etc, etc.

It was a very good runner when I drove it in to meet it's maker. You can have the lump for £20 cash; I will even guarantee it for six months ... it is that good.

I am in West Yorkshire. Which part of Scotland are you in ?
Regards:)

If nothing else make sure it's a 4x4 unit you get - >10% more power than a standard 2wd Panda (y) K&N it, drop a 1242 carb on it and Dance, sorry, Fizz the night away!

Hope she goes to a good home...

The only difference between the 4x4 FIRE engine and the 2x4 is the camshaft. Fit the 4x4 to any 2 wheel drive Panda and get an instant extra 5bhp :woot:

And a 1242 carb? Wish there was such a thing. :(
