Hi, well it's time to ask another question, I've got a 1998 Ducato 1.9td motorhome. It's fitted with a 20KE01 Gearbox and I've just been told by a couple of gearbox places that the parts for this are now obsolete. They asked the symptoms which are crunching in fourth and very low gear ratio. Ie 5th gear at 20mph. They reckon someone has bodged the wrong crown wheel and pinion to get it going.
My question is..... Is there any other gearbox that fits straight in or is it time for complete engine and box swap? Thanks

Hi Landiman. I’ve got a 2001 Ducato 2.8 jtd with a 5th gear problem. Parts for mine are readily available on eBay. I’d try there first before you go for a complete gearbox.

The parts for this gearbox are obsolete and have been for years, there is apparently no other gearbox to fit this 1.9td engine. There are plentiful supplies for the later boxes.

Ok, well I've taken the motorhome to Derbyshire and back, it turns out that not only is the gearbox buggered but so is the engine. My question is now how easy is it to fit a newer engine and gearbox to my vehicle? The mechanical side is easy, it's the ECU wiring up that I'd struggle one as I'm old school.

Might be easier buying a whole van with the same cab up to 2002 Mine is a 2002 with 2.0 jtd engine

That's exactly what I want to do, just want something compatible
Why make the cut off at 2002? The x244 was manufactured until mid 2006, and is the same basic vehicle as the x230, with revised front grille, and side bump mouldings added. The instrument panel became electronic, and the MLGU box was phased in at the same time.

I'm not really bothered about what I put in , I just need to be able to get a running vehicle by mid September and that there's a way to marry up the old van and new engine.

Given that you have to source the replacement, that could be ambitous. Before deciding see this current thread by Grachal. I think that he has given up on his jtd.
