Hey this is a picture from the passenger front corner of my Tipo in the engine bay. I am just wondering what the heck all these wires with connections on them were/are for??? what is my Tipo missing?

Thanks guys and girls!

hey

ah... well I just bought the fiat, I am not a car person really so I am not sure where the expansion tank for my coolant is.

My Tipo is a 1990 Tipo DGT... its manual, power steering, I believe it's a 1.6 but I'm really not sure how to tell - it doesn't really say anywhere but I know there will be a code on it somewhere that I must have missed.

Any ideas what was there?

easy mate... not my fault the Tipo doesn't say what the engine is anywhere obvious! I know it's either a 1.4 or 1.6 just not sure which, I'm leaning toward the 1.6.

Even if it had this expansion tank why would fiat just leave random connections just chillin under the bonnet like that? that doesn't make sense

Its usually written on the boot.

Lots of car manufactures leave wires hanging around incase you wish to add the addons later.

Vauxhall do it with their Astra 1.6 which does not have electric mirrors. The wires are there and if you want electric mirrors you need to buy 2 electric mirrors and a switch to contorl them and I'm sure there are many other examples as well.

Yeah loadsd of manufacturers do it.
Especially with fog lights, mirrors (as trance said), heated seats, extra speakers etc.

Its not that unusual, my tipo had loads of "Spare bits" :D

saying that, 2 of those connectors look very similar to some that are under my Cinquecentos bonnet :chin:

it turns out they're for remotely adjustable headlights (y)

so if you dont have them, you should be able to plug some strieght in :D

Different markets around the world have different equipment. For example, cars in Sweden need driving lights on with ignition, so there is extra wiring for this. So Fiat and others make the wiring loom to cover all markets. What is not used, is left to dangle so to speak!! :)

In other words - if the car runs, and everything seems to work (lights etc) then pour yourself a cold one and relax!

This is a good idea I like.

Well cheers everyone it was a good introduction to the Fiat forum for sure! I am enjoying a very cold mexican Sol. beer with a lemon in it at the moment lol

Thanks for all the help! ;)

But do you have the controls inside the cabin? :chin:

ahh...but its not that simple

in the Cinq every single one has the wiring, but only the last few actually had the controls and the headlights that worked with it

dont ask me why :p
