hi guys, meet my new mut mobile,1.2 8v mia, basic? yes, less to go wrong? just a couple of things lol, i have quite a lot to do to her to bring her up to my standards, some important and some just for my satifaction of doing it, first few jobs to try and fit in around work, are breaks (i have a knocking sound from my rear n/s when i pres the break peddle at low speeds) tyres, as i have just put some alloys on her and they are odd tyres and a little low on tread. i have given her an oil, oil filter and air filter change and cleaned her several times. i will update this thread as i do things to her but any tips would be great, thanks :) IMAG0070.jpg

The 3rd brake light, is it a cover over the light/on window or is it a custom brake light?

stuck to the window
Alot are on the outside - so vandals can peel it off

I had one - text has to be reversed so that it can do on the inside :)

If you stick it to the actual light lens - it dont work well - as the light lens is set back and offset

Thought it was a sticker on window  -- this rules out me getting one for now then, (need a replacement rear screen) so would be pointless..unless they can be removed and re-used effectively?

Thanks

50/50

If you can get it to lay down smooth and flat again your in quids, but if not, as it will stretch as you peel it off, it probably aint worth transferring

Ahh I see, probably best to not transfer then, will wait till I've had a replacement screen sorted out,

just had a quick search and they seem to be only a few quid so can't go wrong really being that cheap

Thanks

If someone does peal it off I Will go for a reversed one, but as you have seen, they are not that expensive to replace

Check the coolant level every week and if in doubt about it's age change it. Same goes for brake fluid if it's dark. Open the plugs to the rear light clusters and check the condition of the black earth wire and treat them to a bit of wd40. While you're at it open the cluster and dry it out. Check the gerbox oil level, even a small leak can drrop it fairly quick. Clean off and paint the front of the sump before it rusts through.

my wipers decided to give up on the way home from work today, so i drove home with the drivers side sticking upwards but was only drizzle and not far to go, so i slowly drove home. after a look i found its the common warn linckage. so i will do a temp fix with a laggy band tomorrow, but have ordered some clips from ebay for 2.95 with free 1st class postage, should get them saturday or monday at the latest.

Ahh I remember when my wipers used to fling up and get stuck up top of windscreen, first time it just happened to be on the motorway 40miles from home in the pouring down rain, had to pull over several times and made it to a shell garage to buy some (overpriced) rain-ex..partly helped but I also removed the while wiper arm so had only the p/s working!

I then bought one of those clips for the next 8 months as I didn't get around to the wipex upgrade, rusted heavily but lasted and didn't fail :)

After I had pas failure, I cleaned my earth points under the bonnet and pulled off the pas motor and checked the fuses and connections. Nothing seemed to cure it. The following day it worked fine and has done ever since, but my cd player stopped working when it came back on.
Could they be connected in some way? I also have a faint glow of lights on the dash ( glow plugs, handbrake and ABS ).
Could I still have a bad earth from inside the car? If so any idea where its located?

Sounds like one is drawing more volts than the other. Other than resoldering all the relays for my pas, the CD player (Pioneer) I took off the permanent live and wired up to the cigarette lighter. I didn't have the issue of one drawing more than the other, but I don't have the worry of one failing and the other working.

Did you install the CD player directly onto the existing loom on your car? That can cause some problems if that's the case.
