Hey guys,

Just trying to get some advice now. I've replaced nearside and offside anti-role bar bushes, took 30 minutes, happy days!

However, I did this because I was getting a lot of vibrating whilst driving at high speed 70MPH but amazingly ridiculous at 90MPH, this appears to still be happening. (At the front end, not back).

I believe my CV joint (off-side) is also on the way out, slight clunk here and there. Could this be the cause?

Hope you can help, thanks! :)

I should be saying that you shouldn't be doing 90mph anyway but you probably won't listen. If the wheels are balanced and you don't have a tyre out of shape it may well be a driveshaft fault. Just humour me and swap the wheels front to rear and see if the vibration moves.

Sorry, yes they've been balanced and wheel alignment also been done.

The CV joint probably isn't helping; but have you tried jacking up the front of the car, to see what happens when you spin the wheels -- as well as seeing if there's any free-play at what I think of as the 'quarter hours': i.e. quarter-past and quarter-to; and o'clock and half-past...?

Just trying to run through the obvious checks: but you may need to have a once-over of the complete suspension and steering set-ups to find the fault. I take it the problem started before the balancing and alignment... -- i.e. it's not a loose wheel bolt...?

assuming your 90mph is on tarmac away from the public highway..... vibrations are/can be a whole combination of issues - wheels balanced etc - are the wheels the same size, tyres the same type /brand (AND SIZE - I jest not - garage put 1 wrong on youngests and we spent the good part of a year figuring why she pulled very slightly to the left despite our efforts and we only realised when it went in for mot this year) - why not swap the wheels around front to back etc, drive shafts - a clicking sound the beginning of the end - danger of it popping out on full lock and losing drive - yup had that last year, wishbones checked?, brakes not binding ie warped disc(s)?, track rod ends?, is it vibrating when braking or just driving which the way its worded indicates just driving. getting serious where the 'elders' on here can advise better --- bent steering rack? suspension mount, twisted shell?

Worn inner joints can produce a vibration, especially on acceleration.

and outer worn ones can make bids for freedom
i posted last year about the M18 triangle taking puntos

to say you have a vibration then say you do 90 frankly shudders me to the core(n)

to OP obviously not maggers as i know he has more sens(y)e

The punto is never a happy car at high speeds

its a town car that can cruise on a motorway - not setting up flame tracks and wizzing into the future

I would honestly follow the advice and swap front to rear - you might be surprised

If 1 rim is slightly out of shape - its tugs and pulls on the wheel - which means it vibrates at high speeds

That when i decided to look and found i had a buckled alloy at one point :(

You'll laugh because, I've already done this, heh. I have steel wheels too rather than alloys.

As for not doing 90MPH, I was testing. I'm not a racer, especially not in a Punto, haha!

More so on a clear A30. The max speed I do is like 75/80 but majority of the time cruise around 60/75.

Wishbones, Tie Rod Ends, Anti-role bar bushes, wheel alignment, wheel balanced, swapped wheels around, Gearbox mount, Subframe. - Done! Tyres are all the same size around the car as the steel wheels are.

My current disk breaks aren't the best so, perhaps that could be an issue? It starts to vibrate around 55mph, then gets worse around 65/70. Then obviously as you go further up the clock, it gets worse.

I initially thought the vibrating was due to the badly worn bushes, it has improved but still vibrates. I drive a company van on occasions and its lovely :( ha.

Suspension mount, I'm not actually sure where that one is.. haha. Twisted shell? I'm still learning ;). My mechanic uncle doesn't appear to make time for me, despite me sending him work b-word..

my mk1 punto had same vibrations as u are describing
even worse at above 130kmh

changed whole right front arm and track rod end= no more vibrations

there was like 1mm play in it and that was causing vibrations

I wish that was the case, I've replaced wishbones and track rod ends. :(

Well, in view of all that you have changed I think you'll have to take a brave pill & change the driveshafts - It's about the only thing left! Unless it only does it when you brake you can discount those.

I'm putting some alloys on the weekend so, will see what happens that way.

My car this morning was quite gutless. A lot of noise but not much movement at all, heh.
