Technical Maximum temperaure warning

I have a Fiat 1.4 Idea Dynamic. I keep getting a warning saying "radiator liquid maximum temperature" or something similar and temp gauge briefly goes to max even though it has not overheated. Anybody know what causes it and which part needs replacement?

radiator excessive coolant temperature?

Take to fiat dealer who will upgrade the ECU software to cure this

Thank you I will speak to Fiat garage although readout does say "Maximum" rather than excessive temperature. Also when this happens the car won't start or if it is being driven it momentarily cuts the engine as if it has a quick misfire. Thank you anyway.

I had the battery replaced and problem solved.
