I have a question that I'm hoping some smart person here can answer. I have a set of Fiat alloys with studded winters that I want to put on my daughters car. It is currently fitted with a set of Fiat steel rims. My question is; do I use the same bolts (12x1.25 with 60 degree cone 22mm thread length stock 17mm head) for the alloys? I trial fit them and found I had 6 or 7 turns before the seat engaged. That didn't seem like enough. Any help would be great! Cheers, Dave

Don't know specifically re your vehicle, however longer wheel bolts/lugs are available via eBay etc. Obviously steel wheels are not as chunky in design so can get away with shorter bolts.
The other thing is are the alloys using a similar taper/cone shape to locate the wheel as some used a flat stepped washer with a wider locating a shank, or though that may just be on chrome nut type fixings.
If you get longer wheel bolts don't go too long as may foul something behind.

Thanks man. I ordered some longer ones off ebay, but they won't be here for a few days. The intel from the aftermarket bolt manufacturer was that their 28mm thread length (6mm longer than stock) would not cause an interference problem. However, if someone can tell me the stock bolts are ok, I will use them. The stock Fiat alloys have the female 60 degree cone that the stock lug bolts have. I have a set of aftermarket alloys for my 2012 Pop and they have special bolts with a shoulder profile to match the rims. Cheers, Dave

My 500 1.2 lounge with alloys left the factory with exactly the same wheel bolts as my 1.2 Panda on steel wheels.

Thing is, how many turns of thread are there in the hubs?

Next time you have a wheel off, put a bolt in and see how many turns it takes before it starts poking out the other side.
