Lidl W5 15W40 oil

Well guys, I do need some help from you.
Today I went to the super market and found out that Lidl carries a W5 15W40 oil (16 euros for the 5 l), from what I see, it's a semi synthetic.

It says on the canister:

Specification: API SJ/CF-4/CF, ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4, E2. Approved according to/complies with: MB 228.1, 229.1, Volvo VDS, MAN 271. Corresponds with: VW 505 00, MTU.

Have you ever used it? What is your opinion?

The viscosity of the Lidl oil you mention is 15W/40 which isn't correct for the 1.2 Panda. The FIAT recommended oil is Selenia 20K (10W/40, ACEA A3, API SL/CF) but it is quite expensive. However, Fiat dealers seem to be using Selenia Pure K (which is actually a 5W/40 grade), presumably so they only have to stock one oil for servicing lots of different models.My dealer only sells it in 1 litre packs making it very expensive.

However, as the Panda 1.2 only needs 2.9 litres of oil it makes sense to buy well known brands in the right grade. Just make sure it says 10W/40 and ACEA A3 on the pack.

Yes, I know that 15W40 is thicker than the 10W40. I was just wondering if someone has used it.
The Selenia K in Greece is too expensive. It costs 27 euros the 2 liters can, while any semi synthetic 10W40 costs about 20 euros the 5 liter can.

Let's think this through......7 Euros extra for the correct oil or.....pay less for possible serious isues with the engine and problems in the winter....hmmm.....that's a tough one :shrug:

Besides the fact that you are ironic, you can't even read what I write!!!
27 euros for 2 liters is 13,5 euros per liter and I will need 4. That makes 54 total.
The other one, just costs 16 (plus it has 5 in the can)
So it's quite a difference, 37 to be exact.
As far as the question at the first post, I am just asking you, if you ever used it. I never said that I will.

Well, I recently bought some oil from the shop. Boy it's dear these days isn;t it?

Our Seicento has 35000 miles on it. So does the oil and filter, but for top-ups. If it breaks, I'll replace it.

If it feels like oil and smells like oil. It's probably oil. How much damage coudl it do?

I do not know hence the question. Since it claims to cover the standards on the label....

I suppose your original question was "has anyone used it?" and the answer seems to be no. Everyone will offer some advice. Many will not want to use it and in the UK where the 4 seasons are all winter, 15W40 may be a bit thick, but in Greece, maybe it's OK.

It was also on sale in the UK for a while - even cheaper. Take a read - it may make no difference:

Would I buy it? Of course. That cos I know I am not keeping the car forever or doing loads of miles.

Even if the brand if from a Supermarket.
Get something cheap but not a 15w40!!!
What's the point of buying an oil that is only good for 5000km max!!!???
When you can buy a 5w40 oil that will last for 15.000km.

In Portugal you can buy 5 liters or Synthetic 5w40 oil for 19,90€ at the local big chain supermarket.

Save on smokes and beer but not on the car oil.

Selénia oil is only for the fools. Who else would pay super premium for an oil from Malaysia.

I have Panda 100HP and to keep it purring like a happy cat I'll continue to use Serena oil. Its only 20 quid more and its not like I have to buy it every day.:slayer:

Thanks for the advice. Obviously in Portugal, are a lot of cheap but reliable choices. In Greece it's a different world :bang:
