Hi all, new member in need of help. My Fiat 500c (2009) has a flat battery. And I also can't unlock her using the key? Now this IS a proper key, as it worked with the central locking & ignition fine...

But the key in the (pasenger's side) door, does nothing. The driver's side & boot don't HAVE a keyhole... Help!:(

Keys used for years in the ignition often wear with the ignition barrel, but when it comes to a barely used door lock the key no longer matches well enough to make the lock turn, Sometimes you can make it work by turning and wiggling it, but more often than not you need the spare or less used key this is not worn.

But the poster says there's no drivers door lock and the only lock is on the passenger door? Unless its just confusion on which side is which RHD vs LHD I'm sure its on the "right" side for the car?

Yeah, my guess would be it's on the right of the car everywhere, which would be driver's side here, and passenger side there ...

Send me a good picture of the key and I can send you a blade cut as a new key without any wear on it.

Daughters 500 will not unlock

Tried fob and no luck so suspect battery problem.

Tried key in lock and nothing, there is no 'pressure' when trying to unlock.

Seriously stumped on this, help very much needed.

Yes have tried key both ways, there is a mechanical noise inside like the rod is loose so think that’s stopping key from opening.

Also think the battery is dead so central locking is now working

Is your daughter a member of the AA or RAC?
If need be I'm sure you can probably hook up a jump lead from underneath( not saying it will be easy) or there maybe a way of backwards feeding the car to unlock it say via the number plate light?
You have checked the fob battery?

Lessen to everyone, at least once a month use the key to unlock the car so you know the mechanical side still works? And use the boot handle not the fob to open it, so it keeps working too.

That's a good tip. Never had a car that wouldn't unlock with the mechanical key before. Rubbish to design in that failure method.

None of us are members sadly. I will take the blame for rod not being connected as I fitted new handle bracket a while ago and obviously never connected it up right.

Trying to figure out how to connect from underneath but it’s not easy due to lack of height

I’m having the same issue with my Abarth. It’s most likely the front rod has come off. Once it’s come out once it will continue to do so. A carefully placed zip tie will keep it in place.

As you’ve had it out before that nylon bush will be knackered.

As I think power is a battery issue is it possible to open bonnet from underneath??

Hi :)

Jack up one front corner of car

Neg jumper cable to gearbox BLACK CABLE point

Pos jumper cable to the RED CABLE terminal on starter motor

You have a circuit ;)

Good luck.. do let us know how it goes :)
