Im not sure if this is meant to be in computing, so sorry if it is.
im on ubuntu instead of windows, so cant just use itunes. howver i can use another ipod syncing tool, which has worked for me before. i recently got rid of all my songs on my ipod. the ipod is saying it has nothing on it, and when plugged in my laptop, it is saying its empty. it is though saying that it has only 1.5gb memory free. (its a nano with an 8gb memory). when trying to my songs back on, it will say not enough memory.
does anyone know what is wrong, or what i can do to rectify this?
cheers all :)

Sounds like applzimers...

try the famous apple 3 R's;

restart your ipod/computer and connect

reset your ipod (hold on then off, hold the power button till you see the apple logo. thats for 1/2/3rd gen Nano's 4th/5th hold on/off then centre and power)

RECOVER.... Plug in your nano and using whatever software RECOVER or do a full SYSTEM RESET. this esentially reformats your device wiping memory and system settings. on restart it will act as a new device.

If all else fails...

use a PC running windows and itunes or use a MAC to see if they can recognise your device

If nothing recognises it then it deffinately is the begining of Applzimers!

the device memory begins to fail and it loses its internal drivers to file corruption.

very common on early devices, especially 1st and 2nd gen Nano's which use flash memory.

if you plug in into a PC or MAC and it can recognise the device then its game over im afraid.

However i would recommend the new Sony Nano(style) devices, excellent sound quality and bargin price. Full touch screen 16gb unit the size of the 4th nano for £120 (y)

i have a 3rd gen nano. tbh i dont know why i bought it. i dont like apple products really, and think there products are massively overpriced. it must have been an impulse buy lmao. it lasted a while to be fair.
il look into the sony ones, thats alot better price than ipods, and sony are probably better quality arent they?

They are full touch screen and have button controls too. depends what you prefer.

sound quality is on par with the nano, if not better than. the build quality is second to none, they good materials and strength.

The main feature for non Windows/MAC os users is that it acts like a flash drive. can plug and drag and drop files.

But it also has WiFi, so can use iPlayer and browse the internet (y)

Ive got the 4th gen nano, its a good little product, got it off ebay when my creative mp3 play broke in half. its done its job. but i got dropped and the screen cracked. so moved to the Sony..
