Technical Ignition feed for subwoofer

Hi,

I was attempting to fit a subwoofer into the vehicle at the weekend however ran into trouble finding a suitable ignition feed. I saw on another thread that there is an ignition feed to the 12v socket that can be spliced into, is this correct and if so which wire is it.

Do you mean the 'remote' feed? So not the one that powers the amp (which should come direct from the battery with an inline fuse), but the one that switches the amp on with the headunit? If so, this should be attached to the remote (usually blue) wire coming from the back of the headunit.

Correct, so I have the connection from the battery, and there is a ‘remote feed’ wire that sends a signal when the ignition is turned on right? (Please correct me if I am wrong, I have no clue about wiring as you can probably tell) but is the only way to do this to have it from the head unit, or can you not get the signal from other systems, such as the cigarette lighter (which I assume has remote feed as it only works with the car on)

You could get it from the 12v socket sure, but the point is that it's not an 'ignition' feed, as the amp is only meant to be on when the stereo is.
Say you break down and you leave the ignition on to power the hazard lights. The amp will be drawing battery power even with the stereo off, and will drain your battery a lot quicker.
