Technical i have a stiff one

my gears seem to be going a bit stiff, is this because the gearbox is low on oil? or is it more expensive problem than that its slowly getting worse but doesnt seem as bad when i been driving for a while

Try parking it on your new drive, bound to be a leak patch soon enough.

lol sure my parents would love me when i get chance am gunna take it to wigan paul to look at the leak rather have a specialist look.

i thought gear box oil needed topping up anyway from time to time - or am i wrong?????

yeah it should be checked now an again see if it will go through all the gears while car is not moving, i you know what i mean.

no it sounds fine - i thought the oil might just get used up during the running of the car? i def havent a leaky gearbox though

Sammi - try getting your gearbox oil changed for synthetic stuff, this should improve the gearchange. Just had tmine done & it seems better already...

sometimes new oil works wonders.
Keep an eye on the level though and see if you really have a leak, in which case it's down to Wigan paul.

I'm sure that the linkages get gummed up with rubbish too. It might be worthwhile regreasing all the joints.

oil change is easy, so is greasing(sp) the linkage

Hi Sammi, When my driveshaft popped out last month and all of the gearbox oil leaked out, It was replaced by the garage. I cannot tell you the price as it was alongside other work but I can't see it being more than an hours labour (£35-£40) and the oil itself. I used some top notch synth stuff that set me back about £20 IIRC.

It's pretty easy to change the gearbox oil. I've done it! Only made a little difference to the gearchange quality. Gearbox oil doesn't get used up. It only goes down if there's a leak. Perhaps you should ask someone to check the gearbox oil level for you
