I know the 500 is a fairly reliable car and all, but having 5 days worth of threads on the front page is a joke. Can someone at least pretend they've got a problem with their car so there are some questions to answer? :p Either that or start some good natured off topic threads (y) Don't make me tell you again.... OK?!?!?!?!?! Another couple of months and there'll be the "my washers don't work", i've got ice on the inside of my screen etc etc threads, but till then do try and keep the forum a bit busier :D

run out of petrol recently?

Thankfully not :D

Once is enough. I think everyone should run out of fuel once in every car just so they know how big the tank is :) Just don't do it in the snow like I did..........

heres my worst(think ive run out 3 times)

working long hours
driving on the motorway about 11pm
forgot the car i was in( had a wonky fuel gauge
car dies on the motorway
I have to walk miles to the petrol station
buy a can and walk back
get back and the key snaps in the petrol cap
so i l start levering the the petrol cap off in what light there was
cap snaps, screwdriver slices me hand open
stem the blood and get back to my levering
cap snaps again and falls into the filler pipe
so i get the fuel in from the can eventually working against the bit of cap in the filler

so back inot the car and of course manual fuel pump
so im trying to get her started ad just as the battery is going she fires up
droe to the petrol station and put more fuel in,with difficulty due to the broken cap
went to casualty and eventually got my hand stitched
went home and got less than 2 hours sleep before back up for work

my next day of was spent stripping down the filler assembly to get the cap remains back

I've run out of gas three times myself. Once on a B road on Salisbury Plain - An Army Landrover stopped and kindly took me to the nearest garage. Second time, directly outside my own house, which was kinda lucky I guess. The third, even luckier. I had driven from the south of England up to Fife and my motor actually cut out having run out of petrol as I rolled onto a Supermarket forecourt!

My Fiat 127 had a small fuel tank so I used to carry a large jerry can around. The jerry can spilt in the boot whilst going through the Blackwall Tunnel.

It was then I found out that petrol dissolves the insulating liner of the floorpan. :(

You couldn't plan that.......

The last of my winter tyres have arrived so I have all four, but I'm too scared to post in the winter tyres thread in case I start another argument. So I'm keeping quiet.

I've decided to follow your lead and get shiny new steelies from mytyres too - you are right - it is just too much of a pain trying to find local ones on ebay, and then you have to pay to get them fitted and balanced...

I have just one request: If you end up paying less than I did because the price has come back down, please don't tell me!

The service from mytyres has been excellent though - they're smart, brand new wheels and tyres, delivered in a week and with tyres correctly mounted (in a direction-of-rotation sense).

It won't come down, unless we have a very mild winter.

Not strictly 500 related, but I have in my hand actual photographic evidence of me cornering a Panda on 3 wheels.

Bow before me mortals.

thats funny, I was going to ask you if you had all of them yet, but I was worried that any more posts on the winter tyre thread may bring down the server.
