Hi, when changing my insurance the CS person pulled the car (Evo 1.4 Dynamic) as having a thatcham alarm.

I said I did not know if it had one as I had only just collected the car.

So I can be correctly insured I need to know if I do or do not have a thatcham alarm.

Whats it look like - where is it - how can I test it?

Cheers.

Lock your doors and try get in ? A majority of alarms have sensors around the car, try opening the door (despite being locked), shake the car slightly. If nothing happens chances are you don't have one.

Dont try any of the above

open window and lock car leave for one min then wave hand around inside

if it goes of then you have an alarm as for the spec Fiat maybe able to help you with that

I kind of guessed.

I think I'll try taking it out this weekend, since I bought it I have been sent to other parts of the country with work in company cars.

Will try the suggestion ta.

Fiat dealers have told me no.

I guess I need to inform my insurers - dang thats likely to cost me.
I hope not as it was their suggestion not mine.

your car has a Thatcham category 2 security device fitted.

Category 1 is an approved alarm/immobaliser
Category 2 is an approved immobaliser and thats what the EVO has as standard as do all punto models from about 2000.

the specification is different for different model years but you do have a thatcham approved system

But not an alarm

see the thatcham list here http://www.thatcham.org/security/pdfs/categories/PassengerCarCAT2.pdf

Cheers, dont need to contact the insurance then.

Must have been what they mentioned.

I did the test and dont have an alarm.
