Hi. Hope I'm posting in the right bit as usually use my laptop which is broke so having to use ap on my phone.

Anyway I have a FIat punto ELX w294 PNT

Last week when I put my foot on the clutch to change gear my revs went wild although it only happened once so didn't think anything else of it .

But the past three days it's been doing it more and more and sounds like the engine is going to explode.its intermittent and my foot isn't on the accelerator when it does it...

Does anybody have any idea what the problem is please? I described the problem to my local mechanic who doesn't know what it is but they're going to take a look at it this Saturday for me (what's the betting it doesn't do it on Saturday!)

Confused :(

Assuming you have an 8 valve 1.2 the throttle cable could be sticking and not closing everytime you take your foot off the pedal. The throttle control is under the right hand side of the air filter - round black thing on top of the motor. You could ask a friend to repeatedly push the pedal and see if it operates smooth and free all the time. Mats in footwell scrunched up near the pedal could cause the same sort of thing but more unlikely.
If it's the fly by wire throttle it could be a more serious electrical problem.

When I look just says can't find details?.. But doesn't say it's been scrapped x

Just for the record i would be concerned if i was you because there is always a reason cars dont show on dvla site, its usually due to a plate change or because car has been scrapped whether by accident due to chassis number recording issues or whatever,i bought a car this week that had a 16 digit chassis number (should be 17) you can imagine how soon i got that sorted

You really need to contact dvla because i use another site too to access vehicle details and your reg wasnt showing there either which ive never seen before

Oh :( You've got me worried now! They won't take my car will they? :(
Ill phone them Monday

Just an update I phoned dvla today and there's no problems with my car it's showing on their systems

Did u type the reg in correct? As when my mechanic ordered parts for mine last week he typed one digit in wrong and it came up with a green fiat punto aswell but that one was showing as scrapped

Hi

I've had my throttle body cleaned three times since last post and there was also a hole in main air breather and was off at one end.. Which has now been repaired .... But it's still revving.... Now when my foots not even on the clutch (or accelerator) getting fed up of spending money and the problem not being fixed.... :(. Does anyone have any more ideas please? If I took it to fiat for diagnostics do u think that they would find the prob ? ?
