Hi all,
I've joined this forum because I have a problem with my Punto. Shortly, I'll post separately on the correct thread about my current problem.
My family has had Fiats since about 1960, starting with a 1950 1400. Since then, we've worked our way through a retinue of 1400's, 1400A, 850's, 1100, 2300, 1500's, 128, 132's, 131 & a Regatta. The only Fiat I currently have going & registered is my Punto but I have a number of cars awaiting either restoration or finding a good home with someone who will love & restore them. They include a 1962 1100 (suicide doors model) & a 1955 1900A. The 1900A is the most interesting of these with only 52,000 miles on the clock since new. These are genuine miles, the car hasn't been registered since 1969. The 1900A has an unusual transmission arrangement. It has a column change like many cars of its day. Most people would expect to see a 3-speed box in a car like this. "Three on the tree" as they say. The 1400's & 1900's all had 4 speeds. The 1900A has 4 speeds PLUS an overdrive, so effectively its a 5-speed. Not bad for 1955. It has a conventional clutch but it also has a torque converter interposed between the engine & the clutch. What were they thinking? Well, its not an automatic, you really need to use the clutch to change gear (I think you do, I've never actually driven this car) but you can stop & pull away again in top gear WITHOUT using the clutch. A bit odd but a fascinating hybrid from the past when they were trying out a few different things. The car's are located in Sydney Australia. Someday I guess I might post an add for one or other of my "babies" to see if there are any enthusiasts out there who would be interested?
Cheers!
