Hi,
I don't think it is correct to say that Gen 1 software cannot be updated to 2nd Gen or V10.
You may be correct in that some earlier BM modules fitted to some earlier cars with generation 1 software cannot be updated but this is a module identification split on the serial number level.
Our daughters own car is a 500 2010 and came with a Magneti Marelli MAP sat nav and everyone said the same thing it could not be updated to take a tomtom2 which requires 2nd gen software as it was early gen 1 software. Even talking with Fiat and many dealers we were just told it was not possible.
Hacky my specialist 'scam buster' set about it and the car now is 2nd gen and runs a TomTom2 the Magneti Marelli useless antiquated MAP sat nav binned.
Hacky has now helped others Fiat and Alfa owners all over the world update so I suggest it maybe a BM module serial number level that limits the update but as of yet we have not done any cars earlier than 2010 and only failures have been when BM modules have been found faulty or disconnected but as said looking at the BMConfig file if it does not show a BDAddress code line then we know the car will not accept any updates..
