My dear camper van with an FIAT ducato 2,8 IDTD (motor code 8140.43) has just had a heart stroke and need a new heart.
In other words. Im looking for help to get my dear car on the road again for new adventures. For a swift fix I had the plan on buying a complete engine with the turbo and all the parts standing on the travers and then do a swap. But I cannot find the right engine (2,8 idtd 90kw/122hp) anywhere. However there are several 2,8jtd engines available, and even 2,8Hdi from peugeut boxer. So is it possible to mount the 2,8jtd in my car if I also get the ecu over. Some people say it just a breese, and other states that this is buying a **** load of troubles.
Im not interessted in guesses, but tips from someone that accually have done this operation.
BUT im most intersted in tracking down a good function engine that are the same as my current one that just died :-/

Others on Forum may have more specific advice, I have had 2.5, 2.8iDTD and 2.8JTD Sofim 8140. Series engines ,mostly in rear wheel drive Iveco Daily's and on 1997 Fiat Ducato Maxi van which was the 122hp version as you have in front wheel drive version (which I fitted in a boat) if you can stay away from ECU JTD that would be my advice as in keep it simple.
What I was thinking was, if you can get a good 2.8 JTD if all that is available, it may be possible to mount your housing that is bolted to the cylinder block on six long bolts from memory with all existing Bosch injector pump, vacuum pump, power steering pump and brake vacuum pump , oil filter assembly etc. as long as you can fit the old injectors and pipes from original engine. As far as I know the cylinder block is basically the same, my concern would be checking that the injectors will swap over etc.
I have rebuilt those engines in the past, though long retired now, it was a fairly simple engine and millions were built.
What was the issue with yours?
The engine was used in Fiat, Renault, Citroen and Peugeot in it's day , but in fairness it was a long time ago and even 2.8JTD versions are in short supply.
One small point the same engine if from a RWD vehicle like the Iveco is no good as it is not built to run on it's side slightly at an angles as in front wheel drive vehicles, it looks basically the same but the bearing carrier and sump, oil pick up etc are different.
