Can anyone tell me what controls the large wedge type bulbs found on the outer edges of the Punto Evo headlight assembly?
I tried all positions of the light switches and they never illuminate. Tested the bulbs thinking they had blown, but they are both ok.

I've never once seen these illuminated in 4 years owning the car!

Here's a stock image as it's dark outside now!

"Running lights"? They are monitored and if one fails you get warning beep and message on LCD ("check running lights'), yellow triangle.
If you don't have such fault your car is probably modified or "fixed" after crash or something sketchy like that.
Or those are indicators/blinkers. Which makes this even worst if they don't work...

Definitely not indicators. They are fitted in the bumper on my 2011 Evo.

The bulbs in the headlights are clear glass unlike those in the photo you posted which are orange.

I'm not aware of my car having running lights, and I have no warning if I remove one of the bulbs either.
Perhaps it's something that is optional and coded via MES?

It has the original Valeo headlamps.
The car has indicators in the bumper, sidelights in the main lens using the 5w wedge bulb, and then the standard hi/low halogen.
Fogs also in the bumper that double as turning lights when cornering.

There is nothing that switches on the additional bulbs in the headlight cluster and as I said, the car has never had running lights.

It's your problem. You figure that one out. Bad connection or something (relay, fuse)...

Shall I continue with the pictures?!
Or do you need a video?! 🙃

These are called "running lights". Don't tell us your car "never had them"...

I'm out. Argue with someone else. Good luck.

I'm not arguing, just stating that in the 4 years I've owned the car they've never illuminated and I get no yellow triangle or message on the dash.
The car has been through 2 controle technique and it's never been commented on them not being illuminated which is why I asked if they are an option that can be enabled/disabled via MES.

I don't think your confrontational reply was necessary tbh.

They should be switched on automatically with ignition on and switch off when you turn on the sidelight (which is this bulb as you wrote before):

However I think they might be not standard / available in all models.

Classic "tone policing". It took you 4 years to solve a mystery (well, I did it in 1 hour or so)...
Forum is not "Live Google" where real people search for you and provide you a links!
This is NOT how it works.

Good luck with your next problem.

I will have to check but on mine I seem to remember if you flick through the Menu the DRL could be enabled or disabled there. I have mine on.

Yes, it should be there according to the information from eLearn in post #17.

The FIAT Owner's handbooks usually list the menu functions and how to activate / desactivate them. I assume the Grande Punto one does it, too.
I'm also sure that having a copy of the handbook is a good idea. There should be one available for download in the download section of the forum.

I’ve gone through the menu functions and no reference to DRL. The only lighting option is the cornering lights. 🤷🏻‍♂️
