Following on from rallycinqs (David) announcement in the “racing your cento” thread https://www.fiatforum.com/showthread.php?t=36858 about the upcoming Autotest near me I decided to attend!
Finding the place was easy enough, just look for a big field with lots of cars in it!
Entering the field I chose a poor route and got the Novahunter well and truly stuck, nice help from David got me parked up.
(Sorry for the poor pics, light was coming and going throughout the day)
Novahunter parked up with Mrs Liam on guard!
David’s play thing! The 3.0 turbo diesel Isuzu Rodeo, which has been breathed on by a well known tuning outfit!
David gave me a demo and I will say it was something else! It also helped that the pilot (David) can drive much better than Mr Joe Average!
I originally went with the intention of watching but was kindly asked if I wanted to help out, glad to be involved I accepted and after signing on I was one of the official Timekeepers! Armed with my stopwatch, walkie talkie and course details I got the low-down on my duties expected of me from David and we were off!
Here are the competitors!
Missing is a pic of a proper stage prepared Peugeot 205 Gti rally car, seen here in another pic
The object was to cover three variations of a course and with three go’s per driver, the best times from each three goes was calculated at the end and the winners in their respective class would be announced.
The day went quite without hitch although the Saab 900 had to retire midway after losing drive and overheating. Incidentally it was bought from EBay for £1.70 so no love lost. Due to the Saab going out, the competitors were given an extra go at the last variation of the course.
A late entry by some sheep that weren’t signed up was another quirk to the day! They were quickly herded by aptly named Rodeo!
Overall I had a great day; I was told I did a good job of timekeeping and have been invited back!
Feel free to correct any mistakes I have made David!
Liam
