Hi I am looking into buying a grande punto 1.3 multijet dynamic, (90hp) the car has 180k on it. The seller says it runs and drives fine...

Are these cars good for this high mileage or should I forget about this one? I hear this engine is one of the best around.

Thanks

How long is a piece of elastic? It all depends on what sort of a life the car has had, what is the service history? Any receipts for recent work? How does it drive? How old is it?etc etc. A lot depends on the above, if you don't know a lot about cars take somebody knowledgeable with you to give it a good look over.I have bough car before with this sort of mileage and no major problems. Most modern cars, if looked after, are well capable of this and much higher miles.

Hi there thanks for the reply.
I know it depends on the life the car has had, unfortunately I have no way of finding out, however the seller is confident in it:

"THE CAR DRIVES FAULTLESS,BOTH ENGINE&GEAR BOX ARE SMOOTH AND EXTREMELY POWERFULL, THERE IS NO SMOKE OR LEAKS FROM THE ENGINE & ALL THE GEARS ENGAGE SMOOTHLY LIKE IT SHOULD DO,THE CAR DRIVES FAULTLESS"

Any common faults with the 1.3 multijet to look out for? Or with the grande punto in general?

Thanks :)

the MJ needs decent fuel, and does well if it's run regualarly on decent runs (GETS HOT)

the GP has it's faults..but so does any car,
you've not said what age / spec,
But I'd be looking at £500 to £1000 tops in that region depending on what it needs,

look at the FAQ's at top of GP page,

and just search for the many MJ running rough threads in the panda section..,

CAM_CHAIN is a big'ish question - should be on it's 3rd..

180k is nothing for a diesel, got few diesel cars with over 400k on original engine, gearbox...

flisko - how many of your diesels are smaller than 1500cc..??

the 1.3 is working quite hard dragging a GP around..

but if it's done a daily commute of @100 m-way miles daily for 7 years it'll be a good buy..;)

I always have a wee smile when I read/hear when a seller states..although no history but I can vouch it's been well looked after. Well, in the words of Mandy Rice Davies....he would say that, wouldn't he? He wants to sell the car doesn't he.

If your hell bent on purchasing this car, do a check at the very least on the last MOT & get someone who knows a thing or two about cars to give it the once over. Little niggles can be sorted easily, but things like rust can not. Suspension/brakes/ general state of engine & more. Just remember it's a buyers market & there's always another deal round the corner.

A wee tip when haggling the price of any car is to never say a number, always let them, & ask is that the best you can do. Sounds a bit easy, but when you mention a sum, that's you finished.
