"somthing" has gone wrong with the radio - as if the aerial wasn't there.

I've had the stereo out, and the aerial is plugged in.

I've even managed to loosen the read headlining, and checked that the aerial cable is all attached in there too.

Where else can I check, without dismantling the car :D

It could possibly be the aerial base has failed, all cars with a "Bee sting" type aerial have a powered/amplified base which tricks the radio into thinking the aerial is longer than it is.

Right, I have identified the problem down to....

*drumroll*

....the aerial socket on the back of the headunit!

If I put an unfolded paperclip into the small hole, and give it a slight wriggle, the radio will spring to life (rather strangely, with very good reception). Now I've tried thinner bits of wire (and yes, some tin-foil) to see if I can get a good connection between the inner hole and the aerial inner pin, but I've not got it yet.

Any other suggestions?
