Hi,

I have driven diesel cars for a long time and am very used to turning the ignition until the heater light goes out before starting the car. With the Idea, if you do this the key then doesn't turn any further to fire the ignition so I have to turn the key back off and then on again to start the ignition. I then get a glow plug error on the dash.

Is this normal for the Idea?

I have a petrol IDEA, but I would think that all FIAT diesel models would be the same, re.the glow plug heaters.
Most people that I know, seem to just start on the turn of key without waiting for the plugs to heat up!!!

What happens if you start at once without waiting??

If you turn the key slightly too far it locks out the starter position to prevent you turning the key with the engine running and damaging the starter motor.

This is pretty standard on fiats

If you really can't get the glow plugs heated up without this lock out being a problem then suspect a problem with the ignition barrel its self
