hi ,am new here.
when I turn the ignition on the fuel light shows empty and starts flashing, the engine will turn over but wont fire, anyone else had this problem mk2 punto 2000
thanks

A flashing fuel light, and an engine that turns over but won't start?

The most common cause of this one is no fuel. It's certainly the first thing I'd want to check - no matter what the fuel gauge says.

there is over half a tank full of petrol, when the problem first started if the fuel gauge worked and the light did not flash the car started, but now the fuel gauge does not movethe light flashes and it does not fire.

there is no spark or fuel on the plugs, sent for a ecu off ebay (self coding) but no different

Fuel pump and sender (for gauge and low fuel light) are a single unit under the rear seat, with a wiring connector that serves both the pump and sender.

If that connector/wiring had gone dodgy, you could certainly get the symptoms described: no fuel gauge, warning light flashing, and a non-running engine because the fuel pump isn't working. Check the connector and wiring - instructions here...

Also, there's an old thread here from a bloke who had the same problem, and fixed his by whacking it... :)

fingers99 - is the crank sensor expensive and easy to change.

reguarding the fuel pump ,when you switch the ignition on you can hear the punp kick in for a few seconds as normal.
