Technical fuel light flashes,engine turns over but wont fire

hi ,am new here.
when I turn the ignition on the fuel light shows empty and starts flashing, the engine will turn over but wont fire,anyone else had this problem mk2 punto 2000

The most common cause of this one is no fuel. It's certainly the first thing I'd want to check - no matter what the fuel gauge says.

there is over half a tank full of petrol,when the problem first started if the fuel gauge worked and the light did not flash the car started,but now the fuel gauge does not movethe light flashes and it does not fire.

Check for fuel past the injectors (wet, fuel stinky spark plugs) and spark (both when cranked).

Not surprised.

No fuel past injector and no spark is almost always TDC (aka crank) sensor. Doesn't explain the fuel light, but that may be unrelated.

Fuel pump and sender (for gauge and low fuel light) are a single unit under the rear seat, with a wiring connector that serves both the pump and sender.

If that connector/wiring had gone dodgy, you could certainly get the symptoms described: no fuel gauge, warning light flashing, and a non-running engine because the fuel pump isn't working. Check the connector and wiring - instructions here...

Mind you, wouldn't explain the no spark. Still...............

reguarding the fuel pump ,when you switch the ignition on you can hear the punp kick in for a few seconds as normal.

That flashing fuel light isnt normal

Iirc when I was fitting my c/locking kit I had the big multiplug undone under the fuse box

It meant I had no interior lights as well
Dash flashed as well

One bolt, one plug. I had a quick look on eurocarcare.net but couldn't find a Punto one -- generally they're around £20.
